Wolf Riders vs spider riders question

Dear diary, I have trouble understand the utility of spider riders compared to wolf riders.Whenever I need a cheap skirmisher I find myself going for wolf because they have more models AND cost less..I look at the stats on spiders and they are pretty mediocre ?

Sure they have poison but many less models.(im talking all variants cept arachnarok)( so say goblin wolf riders vs spider riders , and wolf archers vs spider archers)

The poison debuff is pretty massive. I often combine 1 spider and 1 wolf light cav to get the poison procs and save some money. They also have higher melee def, which makes them a bit more resilient. Poison can be a huge factor if applied to the right units at the right time imo. It also is a big slow, so you can kite stuff that you otherwise might not be able to.

i prefer to use them due to poison. But I dont play on legendary so.

Have you got shot by poison dart from native barbarian in Amazon? It hurts forever.

Better mass, and really good melee defense for goblin cav so they hold up units for a long time. Rear charging enemy infantry means your front lines take less damage due to poison and they are shielded so more missile defense if they're hunting archers. They're very versatile and last much longer than wolves though wolves have the speed to chase pretty much anything. This is all off the top of my head but spider riders have always been massively underestimated and did me proud in multiplayer.

Strider is a pretty big deal, wolf riders perform badly in woods even vs low tier missile units like skaven slingers, spider riders suffer no penalties and with the poison they perform far better.

Use wolf in open areas like bretonnia or badlands, use spiders in heavily wooded areas like the empire and skaven minor settlements
