You see the ds used quite a bit in mp, even by top tier lizardmen players like felkon.
If you want a big monster that absolutely kills anything in melee, and money is not an issue, the Dread Saurian is good prospect.
If money is more of a concern, or you want a bit more long range fire support, a Stegadon is a good pick.
If you want that second Stegadon in cases such as these, you need a second army. Which means increasing upkeep for all exisiting armies. So "gold saved" is only a factor if we look at a single army.
My complaint about Dread Saurian is that even regular ass arrows seems to melt that thing. Non-AP archers. It's like CA gave DS armor and missile resist like a Giant Troll.
