I haven't tried it in awhile (2019). Last time I did it improved frame rates in battle very slightly, but the cost was that loading into the campaign map took like 2 minutes on an SSD instead of the 15 seconds it took me in dx11.

on my gtx1080, all ultra, 2560x1080, it runs like ♥♥♥♥♥ in battles compared to dx11

It breaks it, since it is not optimised.

I recommend against using dx12

Did they patch DX12 finally?

I'm getting perfect FPS now with it. Haven't tried since 2019 either.
I also recall a massive memory leak with it, after 30 minutes the game would be unplayable.
That also isn't happening anymore. Graphics look a bit cleaner in 12 so definitely preferred.

Wonder if it's a one time run fluke. (i9-9900k & 2080 TI)

Can you do a direct comparison between DX11 and DX12 Beta in Skaven benchmark and post the results with screenshots pls ?

its a os side improvement, windows v2xxx patch introduces full dx12 finally. also a new terminal for the first time since like windows 3.11, and full VSS which is really awesome

That's really weird because I haven't updated windows since november last year (I forced it off in group policy)

Gonna let windows update run & update nvidia things and run a bench in both modes & see. And ill post the screen / results

Regardless dx12 version is definitely smooth now, maybe not dx11 levels (But not sure either yet) its definitely usable/enjoyable.

It was always smooth for me the problem was load times to the campaign map even with an ssd and 16gigs of ram were just bad. That was with my old computer though. I may try it later and see if there are improvments in the load from battle to campaign or not now.

oh i never knew there was an update lol since when did do this but thats good news hopefully dx 12 is far better then 11

Load times seem the same in both modes for me. Not sure if the fact that the games running on an NVME would matter for this game or not.

Running in 12 @ 4k ultra wide HDR with extreme shadows the FPS in skaven bench is 55
In 11 the FPS 68 average

So 11 is still better but in 12 the graphics are more crisp and I'm not having any lag at all in 12 like it was doing before, and no eventual memory leak > slower & slower & slower til crashing.

Updating windows from nov to may update seems to have had 0 effect on performance.
Except for one major thing, upgrading skills used to lag the game for a few miliseconds, that's completely gone with the windows update.

So I would say 12 is at least usable now unlike it has been. Unless you're all about those 13 extra FPS for a bit of quality drop.

For me the quality bump with 12 is worth the few less fps as running the game in HDR etc. Colors pop way better on 12

Depends on your hardware and drivers. Personally I haven't seen DX12 improve my framerates at all. It does make them much more stable, but that kind of doesn't matter when I get higher numbers even at my lows.

here, on a brand new Ryzen 5 3600 with a RTX 2070 (not super) , i loose about 15fps in battle bench, and the same with Skaven bench, so, i would skip DX12 for dx11 on this one ;-) Have a good day.
