Other good turn based strategy games?

As someone who grew up playing Warlords 3: reign of Heroes and Warlords 4:Heroes of Etheria, i love me a good turn based strategy game. But at this point i've got 1000's of hours in TW:WH and Civ 5 and Im momentarily tired of stomping out skaven and barbarians and was wondering if anyone had any turn based strategy recommendations?

Im sure in this community there are several people with great recommendations so lay them on me :)

I dont mind if its from 2020 or 1998, i just am looking for something that can satisfy that turn based strategy craving that Warlords 3 and 4 left me with long ago

Age of Wonders 3. It's basically Heroes of Might and Magic crossed with Civilization. Would recommend Planetfall too, but I haven't played that one yet.

Civ and Fire emblem are the only ones that come to mind. If they count.

Well if you just want the turn based wargame side and no diplomacy Warhammer 40k Gladius is pretty good. If you like scifi 4x ones Galactic Civilizations 3 is also a favorite of many people. You mentioned Civ 5, Civ 6 is in a really good place overall now with the expansions and everything. Let me look at my games library and I can probably mention more.

I missed a pretty big one. Endless legend is amazing, as is age of wonders 3 as mentioned by others.

Yeah i never bothered buying Civ 6 since it had such overwhelmingly negative reviews, its made me steer clear of that game since its been out. but sure let me know what else you got!

The new version of xcom and xcom 2 are both really good. Though they are a few years old now I would only buy them on sale.

I actually already beat XCOM 1 & 2! Theyre both great (if a bit buggy) games, and its wild you brought them up cause im actually working on an XCOM 2 mod in modbuddy right at this moment

Heart of Iron 4 and all it's DLCs
Be warned
It's boring( for me ). Little animation, it's more like chess.
But it's a real hard core strategy game.

Xcom 2
Divinity original sin 2
Blood Bowl 2
etc.

HOI4 is more like Risk than anything, but it's also a Grand Strategy Game so that's kind of the point.

Warlords 4 was alot like risk, thats why it recieved kinda iffy reviews but i actually liked it best

And ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I remember doing the original blood bowl in warcraft III custom games on battlenet ages ago! i had no idea someone made that a standalone game!

It's like Dota 2 all over

I thought them forcing the new EA launcher screwed mods, I was mid star wars conversion mod.


Endless legend can be decent, its older but I think they put out a sequel.

Yes Age of Wonders 3 is wonderful. I'd also recommend Dominions 5 if you can stomach an interface and graphics so basic.
