Anyone play shadow of the horned rat or dark omen??
Remember how you could give items to units and they did special things?

Why is it we only get crappy banners that literally do nothing??? I mean scarecrow banner for instance?

Why no lightening sword or hellfire sword?

Why no shields

Why no potions for units???

And damn why no usefull banners? Also why are the banners not visable in battle???

We have ror with special effects why not special items too?

I played shadow of the hornet rat when I was a kid. My dads pc couldn't handle dark omen when it came out unfortunatly.

You do get special items that do stuff. Like magical sword. But only for heroes/lords.
But I get what you are talking about. I dont know about that. Might make for too many OP units.

They do something. It's just not always very apparent.

And what would those do? Also, what would a single sword in a unit of 60 spearmen do to unit's effectiveness?

Some units do have shields. Elven spearmen, Empire swordsmen, Saurus have shield variants. I could go on.

Because potions are hero items.

And damn why no usefull banners? Also why are the banners not visable in battle???
Define "useful banner". Do you want banners to turn your clanrats into something capable of versing off against a sun dragon?

We have ror with special effects why not special items too?
Because if every unit could recieve those upgrades, then RoR would be completely useless.

Well they would be rare for balance but examples.

Lightning sword would randomly zap enemies on use, same as the banner.

Hellfire sword would release fire novas on proc.

The shields would be similar to the lord ones such as extra missile defence or reflect spells become immune to spells.

Potions again like the hero ones but on units they would be really cool.

Banners could add regen or aoe damage on proc and such.

Ofc the enemies could use these items would spice up the battles a lot as the only real spell threat from the enemy is warp lightning they suck with everything else

That's what spells and active skills do. If you want fire damage, there is a banner for that. If you want explosions, there are a few units that do it.

As you said, heroes already have potions. Don't you think introducing multiple radically different kinds of potions would be confusing?

Oh wow. A shield that grants a singular unit +5% missile resistance. Such a terrifying prospect.

So youve never played the games or youd know they do a lot more than just dps increase...

The current unit items have nearly zero effect on the outcome of battles...

There is a shield in the game that makes you immune to missiles but that could be op in game so i didnt mention that.

Fire novas in blobs of enemies is a lot better than turning damage to fire which not even a dps increase unless weak to fire :/

The potions could be healing to effects like deathblow.

Banners could have a dps aura and such.

Theres also items that blow up when units die but that could be broken since in the above games you didnt wanna lose anyone.

If you cant see how these would make the battles better i dunno what to say? Ofc you can only carry 6 things per lord so its not like you can have every unit buffed.

The lord items are cool specially the newer stuff but this is just another layer and could make some units really cool

The representation of units in both of those games had heroes embedded in each unit as represented by their unit cards. Hence you could give those heroes items.

Embedding heroes is redundant in total war as you can throw lords and heroes into the mix whenever and where ever.

No, I have not. But I fail to see how a random damage bursts translate to anything but DPS increase in Total War games.

As for the other points, Do you just want hero items on units? Use heroes, and you'll have all those effects and more.

Damn... Dark Omen is one of my best games ever. I have a slim hope that Morgan Bernhardt will become a new Legendary Lord for the Empire. Some unique mercenary gameplay with it...

Yeah i loved it such a cool game. I wouldn't mind a modern version. Voice acting was pretty good for back then too
