Lothern Sea Guard... can't swim!
Haven't played a HE campaign in a long time and after battling with the Vampire Coast I noted that Ulthuan's elite marine troops can't swim or fight in knee-deep water.

Please add the "aquatic" trait to these landlubbers in the next patch.

8th Edition HE Army Book:

"When the armies of Ulthuan go to war, the Sea Guard play a crucial part, crewing the many warships and acting as the vanguard for the oncoming host. As their vessels hover to land, the Sea Guard disembark to secure the beachheads that enable the rest of the army to come ashore. "

that... doesn't make them aquatic creatures who thrive in water more than on land.

Being a marine... makes you aquatic.

You do know that most real life pirates living on ships couldn´t swim back in the days? Living on a ship doesn´t make you "aquatic". :)

it would be flavorful and make sense. Black Ark corsairs should have it too if they dont. If some braindead zombies are aquatic i dont see why elf marines shouldnt be.

i support this idea

Why do human Sartosa units have it then?

Not sure Elves with armor, spears, and bows make for good "aquatic" troops. They're a nice all rounder due to their seafaring skills, and their ability to fight both in melee and at range- but the gear they're wearing doesn't offer them all that good of mobility. Doubt they'd even be able to swim.

I concur

Isn't the issue their armor? You can't swim in armor. Its to heavy.

I figure, if they've been trained to fight in water, then they shouldn't take penalties for it, but they don't need to get the bonuses for fighting in water either. Their training should just make them able to fight in water without penalty, not fight better than on dry land.

I was just explaining why aquatic isn´t necessary for ship troops, as for Sartosa? Maybe they all have to learn to swim to dig up treasures in the ocean? Vampire Coast has lots of natural aquatic monsters and that perhaps convinced Anessa that it would be a tactical advantage if her troops actually knew how to swim. What do I know?

Ooh .. and Sartosan humans aren´t wearing mail I believe.

I worked on a boat in my early teens and only learned how to swim when I was in my mid 20´s.

Why would they be trained to fight in water? They aren't navy seals, they are coastal guard/ ship guards. They are trained to fight on the ground and on ship decks. Their baggy clothes and metallic armor would make fighting in water just unfeasible (for a human at least, but they are off course elves and there are magic in this universe).

Also, they are citizen militia, not dedicated specialists.

"Have the beach-heads been secured?"

"No, Sir. All of our troops have drowned. It's the armour Sir. Too Heavy."

Aquatic removes shallow water penalties. Marines, believe it or not, do fight when disembarking from ships, so they do technically fight "in the ocean itself"
