Frostheart aura vs Star Dragon?
If push comes to shove, which would benefit your High Elf army more? (Sp and Mp) The Phoenix debuff affects multiple units simultaneously and allows other units to do their work, so it may have better synergy. The Star Dragon is just a wrecking ball however, and can carry its weight far better on its own.

P.s. when I'm finally able to afford two flying monsters at once, would I see diminishing returns with two dragons or can you never have enough of the scaley beasts?

In campaign, dragons. You can throw in one phoenix for the aura, but really dragons are much better, and with the dragon discoutn lord the upkeep probably isnt too much worse.

In MP its a bigger question and really depends on what you expect your unit to do. Cost actually matters, and frostheart costs 50% less than star dragon and is a far inferior combat unit with no breath, its also faster and with its aura can support multiple units at once. The two are really not comparable. The closest comparison is the sun-dragon, since theyre in basically the same price range, and its a question of support(can be valuable on a more deathbally build) vs cheap terror+damage for sun dragon(better in a wider build). If you want cheap terror you have the normal phoenix, so thats not really a reason to bring frosty boi.

dragon due to dragon's breath being way too powerful to ignore. Frostheart also becomes weaker if you use wind of magic which you should do as HE. Also if you own Caledor ,dragons' upkeep price are quite lower than normal.
I like the phoenixes more than feral dragons though. But that's just my liking rather than being a choice of optimisation.

Do the different dragons not have different focuses? Anti Large, Anti Infantry, then the breath attacks do different damage against different factions? (Fire all the way for the undead as an example).

Same for the Phoenixes?

Like the last guy said, caledor gives a reduction of Dragons, pretty sure there is a follower as well that gives further discounts for dragons, either recruitment or upkeep or both.
