Lore questions about Vampire Coast !
1. I've seen that there are men pirates too. How does it work ? How can they co exist and fight next to a zombie ? Do they have a chance to become a vampire if they choose to ? Are they "free" as long as they obey their vampire leaders ?
2. In a world full of bad guys, where do they stand ? Luthor ? Nautilus and the other 2 women ?
I know what happens to Luthor in the end but he doesn't seem so bad compared to Mannfred.
3. What's the faction's strength lorewise ? Is their navy dominant ?

So pirate men and undead aren't supposed to co-existe.
And because they are independantes pirates they don't dominate the sea more than say, Jack sparrow. They are strong individual but don't have the might of a empire, or a country for that matter.
Despite all that, for an "artificial faction" vampire coast is quite well done be it in terme of gameplay, strategy, or design.
Their final battle in vortex is also quite spectacular too

1. Saltspite's faction was shoehorned in the vampire coast faction.
2. They stand for themselves or the undead as a whole
3. No, the HE and DE have the strongest navies.

Also, vampires need to keep humans around. Foodstock and all that.

Sylvania is *full* of peasants. Some are willfully loyal to the vampire counts, but the rest are just cowed and hoping that by obeying and keeping their heads down and noses clean, they won't be the next on the menu. Same for Mousillion.

I figure Vampirate crews and support staff in their ports are pretty much the same. Mortals to snack on and to help hold off daylight attackers long enough for the sun to set and the masters to rise and settle the matter with their horrific power.

I think the vampirates are based off the dreadfleet boardgame where Sartosa and the dreadfleet are enemies. Saltspite commanded human pirates but CA (and I guess also GW) decided to just make her another vampirate faction despite the fact she was warring with them.
Direfin was a new character created for Total war but the vampire coast was something in the fluff even though it wasn't a playable army on tabletop

Yes it was, there was a VCoast armylist which is where most of the units come from.

Yes Direfin and i think Depth Guard too. Both made by CA.

I got Underworld vibes now, i like how mortals can work for the Undead. Like a tavernkeeper who's bringing food for them and crew members.

Thank you for the replies! They're my favorite and most fun to play faction.

Oh ? Thought i read that Luthor had a strong navy by the end along with Tomb Kings, before he was killed by Isabella. It's kinda confusing plus now that the old world will be returning, they may write something about them, cause it's really interesting. Can you imagine a future animated series with these characters ?

Well Vampire/necromancer can, by definition, evolve into a whole giant army by killing more and more people so each of the character may have reached a "golden age" at some point, where they can threaten other power. But because it is tied to only a single individual and not a nation (or even a family) you cannot call them a major power, once they die everything gone (Except if your are Nagash). The "normal" Vampire count figth one other for power but there is always someone strong enought to inherite the whole thing + ancestral territory and all that, so major power.

Then again the lore is not exactly respected here....so who know?

Yeah, vampires are Nagash's ultimate creation. Unliving weapons capable of leading, ruling, and fighting virtually anything through their hideous mixture of personal might, intelligence, magic, and potentially centuries of experience.

Possibly the best chance of bringing down the Dark Gods, though at what cost? And without Nagash around to keep them in line, they're almost as much a threat to everyone else as chaos is.
