Less than that.

I have the game with all DLC activated installed, it's steamapps folder takes up 54.9 GB for me.

thanks for replies, double checked after clearing out some old files to get up to 71.7gb free and in library it says game requires 51gb, but i still cannot install, gets halfway and disk at 100%
weird

but extra weird on download screen says 24gb of 37gb downloaded
so 24gb is not 70gb so how is my drive full?
and why is it only 37gb, do i need 37gb or 51gb?

What do you mean disk at 100.

Some compressing and extraction of installers I suppose.

Disk counts down, so 100% is normal while your computer is doing something e.g. installing. When you are not doing something, often it is an Update you can't see that sits it at 100%.

Both Games together, if I am reading right is about 100GB.

It will download DLC at the same time, even if you don't buy them. So, x GB, but would not surprise me if it tries to partition more that what the game actually is, considering all the DLC and the updates for WH1 working in WH2 even if you don't buy it (same way as how there is a new DLC, it is already downloaded to your machine whether you buy it or not, buying it just need activates it).

So, if you can't get it, see if you can free up enough space for both games being installed so 100GB+, then try again maybe?

thx

retrying and its showing 62gb free and when i click back its going down and now showing 60.2gb free so not showing as 100%
also only installing wh2, not wh1 as its no longer needed

Well, to get the full experience you need WH2 and WH1 :)

So if you have WH1 already DEFINATELY install them both at the same time!

Also, I had a Disk Version of WH1 originally, I ended up uninstalling and re-installing purely via steam to get WH2 to work. Not sure if that was a disk version issue or not.

Even though you have uninstalled WH1, the way the game works, at least for DLC, doesn't necessarily mean that WH1 isn't put back on there at least in part as well. I mean, their logic behind installing isn't exactly logical, you always have to have more disk space taken up vs what you actually purchased.

I personally wouldn't put it past them, especially having worked in software Dev for me life, that just because the screen says a number, that is actually what is going i or what is needed.

Ah, when you said "disk" thought you meant disk activity (via task manager), so generally, when your computer is doing something worthy, that sits at 100%, reading or writing, and you count down which is normal.

So you start a game, disk is at 50% in task manager, that is not normal and could suggest a problem (unless you have a meaty disk). Start a game, disk is at 100% in task manager, that is normal. Installing a game 100% in task manager is normal, installing a game 50% in task manager is not normal for disk.

Once the Disk stuff is done, and the management moves to virtual memory types, then yeah, it shouldn't constantly be at 100% in task manager for "Disk" in task manager, but that depends on what you are doing and the computer build. So if you look at a game, the bigger and more granular a game is with large file numbers, while you are playing you expect disk to be higher.

You can run disk tests, which will come back with errors and tell you about issues, simple CMD can send if you want, BUT, you can't run it while something like WH2 is installing.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT USE A DISK CLEANER APP ONLINE!

You don't need WH1 installed if you're not actually gonna play WH1. The Mortal empires download size is relatively small.

I know, but, we are talking disk space and the numbers not adding up. It wouldn't be impossible that the number that is shown on screen as part of the install message does not actually reflect the install amount required.

However, you need WH1 installed for Mortal Empires in WH2, and to get the full experience.

So for full experience, good if you have both installed.

No, you don't. You can play mortal empires with just WH2 installed.

Look, we are talking about what Steam shows you vs reality.

However, what you may find, as explained, is that the numbers you see on screen for an install, actually doesn't reflect reality.

Same way as you DON'T purchase DLC, but it still downloads.

Your purchase just activates it.

WH2 will still download all the files from WH1, whether they are included as part of that number or not, point is, don't rely on the Download figure that steam shows you.

I've worked for noddy software companies for years, the initial download amount seldom reflects the actual download amount, you start, it downloads something, that kicks off other downloads it originally didn't tell you about. Sometimes even with virtual files.

So, if you are having problems with the disk space amount for a large install, free up more than it says you need, it may resolve it.

This isn't about total size or download size or whatever. You saying to install WH1 is just adding some extra 40 GB for literally nothing. Mortal empires doesn't require WH1 installed and that's just a fact
