They're slow as hell and very vulnerable to pretty much anything.
But keep in mind, everything has a weakness or countermesure. The rattling gunners & jezzails are toast if anything does close to melee range & they eat up ammo like it's going out of style.
And how did you conduct your tests?
If you just set up in the Laboratory and were marching various critters in front of them like a firing squad, then I can see how your results would lead you to the conclusion that they seem way OP.
I just added a bunch of them against a bunch of monsters from other factions.
Also a single player game.

Well while you're out there abusing armies with rat gunnery squads, try to pick a fight with a faction using flying cavalry. Blowing the shiny man things on pretty horses out of the sky with jezzails is a guilty pleasure of mine.
