Grom ME campaign
Any tips where to head and what to do? I seem to have no clue, surrounding settlements are all of wrong climate

Yeah, I deeply disliked that too. Don't really know what the devs wanted to achieve with that, but that detail subtracts from the fun. No wonder it is marked as Hard.

Switch to Vortex for a better Grom experience. Or try one of the other lords (not as fun, granted).

My first Grom campaign I tried to take and hold Bretonnia. Bretonnia is, of course, a pathetic and trivial threat, but then I was invaded by the elves, skaven, and wood elves and got crushed.

For my second try I sacked Bretonnia, leveled up Grom, and maybe held a few old world lands but didn't invest in them or hold em. It was slow going with just 1, then 2, armies. About turn 70, I invade ulthuan, grabbed the sword of khaine, lightening struck Eltharion's 4 stack response in 1 turn, and rose to number 1 in power in a few turns. Probably due to the large treasury you get with all that sacking.

Moral of the story is, take the fight to the elves.

Hard / normal difficult, self imposed Ironman with no exceptions.

sack and raze everything around you. if you plan on heading west to face the He, I suggest taking aquitaine, and bordeleaux. i noticed if you take the 3 settlements adjecent to the wood elves, they will attack you and they can be a pain to fight early on. personally i find it easier to focus on the HE once you settle down on a coastal settlement (bordeleaux). because if you continue to fight everyone around your starting region, HE will start sending multiple stacks over and now you gotta fight multiple fronts, doable but annoying. (legendary, very hard)

1. The surrounding regions indeed slow you down a bit, they are rather poor and expensive to develop for Grom. Find an easy target and sack it every turn to farm levels, maybe the dwarves of vampires. It's still ok to occupy them, build around a strong base, since you are surrounded by hostiles, and once everything is under control, have at least 2 full stacks and then use Waaagh. Use your 2-3 armies to invade HE. I didn't even have to deal with Couronne, they were busy with Norsca.

2. Goldfish, abuse it, especially on VH/Legendary.

3. Hag challenges, abuse them, for a 1 time 50 scrap used to cook, you get 150 scrap and a lot of gold, and she spawns really often

4. Goblin archers, armour piercing upgrade, double shot food, elf trophy, and you get 60dps+ on a 120 unit of archers

I can agree that. Thats what i did in my first Grom try. Fought Bretonia and the wood elves (but im good with the skaven that hold the south for me) but now.... i get swarmed by the HE.... 5 full stacks now on my border town and i have still just one elite stack.... not any fun and just frustrating so i quitted the campagne for now. But the early to mid stage was pretty easy. I like Grom, but i don´t like fighting the confederated OP highelves that spam you to death.... -.-

yea i highly suggest going after HE. that was actually my 2nd game because i was getting overwhelmed by multiple HE stacks in the 1st, maybe bad rng. After i took out several brettonian factions, I let kemmler and ikit (def alliance) deal with the rest of brettonia and wood elves while I focused on HE. great thing was DE was coming in from the west of lothern and malekith was happy to see me fight HE.

I just beside myself, CA did an amazing job with Groms starting position.

I took the nearby territories despite mediocre climate. I also went to assist skarsnik as soon as i could, helping him securing his province.
Then i dispatched the wood elves that started a war against me.

I didn't have to do anything regarding tor yvresse as he was at war with tyrion and got crushed.
