is it?

i think it's great!

even feel the map is larger than ME...

For me it's too restrictive; it forces you to play a very specific way. And no matter how good you are, the other factions always catch up to you. I've never won the race but with a very tiny margin.

You mean the vortex parts, ulthuan and lustria, are larger right?

Obviously mortal empires is much larger in its entirety. But the vortex regions are squished down. Poor DJ khatep..

It isn't that bad really. Most people just tend to prefer ME due to the larger map and greater number of LLs and factions involved.

The Vortex map DOES have a far superior Lustria/ulthuan though with more provinces so it feels way less cramped.

Mainly people dislike the Vortex race. It has a "story" where-as ME is more o a sandbox.

Try it out. It is pretty good imo and has some nice cutscenes and stuff in it.

Is it disliked? I'm guessing the #1 reason most play ME is because it includes all the races/factions from both games. Though some might not like the Vortex ritual stuff, where ME is more of a sandbox with no goal except world conquest

For those of us who play coop, Vortex is also more restrictive in who you can play as.

actually i feel that the whole thing is larger than ME space-wise...

try screen scrolling from east to west on vortex and then compare the the time consumed to the same thing in ME...

it "feels" more extensive!

haven't done any actual investigation though...

maybe the default scrollspeeds on both maps are different - maybe my perception is off...

Its too scripted for my taste. I played and finished it once but that was enough for me.
The more sandbox a mode is the better in my opinion.

I like it. at some timesi need a little bit of a clear goal that the massive ME campaign doesnt.

Plus, all the game 2 areas are much better represented, not to mention are actually complete! The ME map downsizes all the game 2 areas massively and i just cant bring myself to play any factions that start in Naggarond, Lustria, or any place south of the badlands... Just feels way too crowded and limited. All the game 1 races are just fun and dandy, no real big changes in their campaigns.

well, you needn't participate in the race at all...

that's part of the vortex' beauty!

you can play it either way

Yeah but its still going on. And at the end i still need to participate in it if i dont want to lose the campaign.
In Mortal Empires i can just do what i want and the victory conditions are mostly about just conquering.
Just suits me more. Also, more factions, more fun, at least for me.

Vortex is fine. There's some of old grumblers who dislike it. It's more objective and story oriented. You will also get faster turn times. Everyone should try it at least once, and make up their own opinion. Some people just prefer the larger map and sandbox gameplay of mortal empires.

Naggarond, Ulthuann, Lustria and the Southlands are all bigger in Vortex, Naggarond has a western desert area that just doesnt exist in Mortal Empires.

I think it gets overlooked and its a shame because its a great map it feels much more balanced theres no ordertide or anything like that. If you are playing as a faction that is trying to control the vortex all you need to do is make sure you've got one strong army and you can stop anyone trying to take the vortex over and just fufill your objectives at your own pace it's still a sandbox its just got a little more structure than ME.

There was a comment a day ago about the Grom V Eltharion rivalry being anti climatic but also mentioned they were playing ME which builds it up much less I think people assume Mortal empires is everything vortex has but more when that's not the case.

It does not force you to do anything. You can play at your own pace, and just fight final battles to prevent opponents from winning.

I don't dislike it at all. If I'm playing a faction on Lustria/Naggarond I'll always choose Vortex, because those continents are shrunk down to an absurd degree in ME. For Ulthuan factions, it depends on whether I think I'm likely to do much with the Old World, if not again I'll pick Vortex.

It also depends on some start locations. Like Skryre for instance, their Vortex start location is nondescript, but in ME they start in Skavenblight, it's a no brainer for me to start there.

The Vortex campaign makes some people feel rushed or railroaded. Honestly it is good in its own way and has a lot more in game goals then ME. You should try it and judge it for yourself.
