Why are games released on Tuesdays and Thursdays?
I am definitely curious about this. It isn't meant as a gripe about waiting another day or so rather its a longtime question I've had and never really asked before.

So Tuesday releases have happened back as far as I can remember but increasingly Thursdays seem to be popular as well.

Does anyone know why or have a guess?

So there can be a time for a possible hotfix if needed.
Tuesday makes most sense,
Monday: Prepare for patchday
Tuesday: Patchday
Rest of the week: provide support after patch, time to develop hotfixes.

If recent patches and updates have released without much problems I guess thursday is not a problem then either

It depends, sometimes the studio would like to have the whole workweek aviable to fix any urgent problem that arises, sometimes it would prefer to allow a late week release so more data from the users can be gathered through the weekend. It cannot may be even motivated to fix any issues in terms of bugs and glitches, maybe thats simply the date upper managment has indicated since the begining or maybe a marketing dpt. or PR knows thats the most idealy date.

Its from the time of physical copies but stuck.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with hotfixes since Tuesdays have been a standard that goes back over twenty years iirc.

Rather it's got to be a business decision.

This is what I find most likely, of course it brings up another question: why was that time of the week chosen in the days of physical copies?

Finish production Friday
Ship Monday morning
On the shelves Tuesday

Just a guess, but I think that's plausible.

It's because of old people. When you had to drive to the store to buy your game, companies negotiated a Tuesday release in the US and Europe Negotiated a Thursday release. So depending where the company is based, they still follow this schedule cause of old people.

And we would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids.

That's interesting. I'll admit there's a certain nostalgia to getting a ride to the store and getting the your game. Not that nostalgic though bc I prefer steam.
