Try adjusting your Fan's temperature curve, when it starts to get hot you'll want it to go to 100%, but even still your PC shouldn't get hot to the point it shuts down. Maybe your case doesn't have good airflow or something or one of the fans is broken or not facing the right direction.
I suppose you meant "can't"?
I have a AMD RX580 (Nitro+) and same issue, as soon as I'm on the campaign map, GPU fans take off like it's the end times.
This must be an issue with the game because the card isn't even hot. It sits on 65C while it has a target temperature of 75C but still puts fans on 2K+ RPM. Didn't experience this in any other game.
It should only blow that fast if it's under very heavy load and is already at the target temperature, which is 75C for my card.
It won't help if you cap your FPS either. I've tried it.
80 FPS down to 66 down to 60, the GPU is always stuck on 100% utilisation. On 45FPS and below I’ve seen the usage drop though, but who wants to play like that. I had that "issue” with my 970 and now with my 1660 ti too, different drivers, over years, over fresh OS installs, always the same story.
Drastically lowering your graphic settings might “help” but then again that's not really a fix.
CA + game performance / optimisation just does not go together. They make good games but the performance department is literally just a single monkey hitting random keys.
Your PC is not working correctly, if all hardware is working correctly and software is up to date then fans would speed up and chips would slow down to stop the system from overheating and shutting down. Make sure all the fans including graphics cards fans are all clean and dust free. If you have anything overcocked then put it back to what it was before overclocking it. Make sure fans are responding to temp increases.
If you still have issues after that then try and work out which part of the PC is overheating to the point of system shut down and then join a hardware forum to get help and support.
I use that mod to get rid of some of the fog and cloud effects. Not sure if that's your problem.
All those cloud effects have physics effects on them to help them determine how light and shadow and other visual effects react with them, and it can really eat up resources.
EDIT: I will say though after this last DLC released it really feels like it's heating up faster though, no idea why though.
I've found a fix with radeon software settings :) but hopefully this will be fixed some day by CA
YOU MUST enable the radeon chill game mode in Radeon software and set min fps at 30 and max between 40 and 60 fps.
This way when you are idle on campaign map your GPU usage isn't pushed at 100% permanently... and it can give you more fps when needed
In my case with ultra settings when idle its between 10 and 70% GPU usage(30FPS) when moving it's ok too but a little more GPU usage because of FPS getting to 40-45
Don't know if there is similar setting on nvidia side but it's help me a lot and it's better than just limit your FPS to 30
EDIT: put the anti-aliasing in FXAA mode can help you cause it seem to be THE very demanding setting on your GPU...
if I put it to 8x, GPU usage is between 50 and 98%...
Thanks, now my problem in Campaign mode is resolved( I've RX5700XT too),but now the problem is in the battle mode,in fact in the battle, normally I haven't gpu high temp problem, then I would make battle without Radeon Chill, but only for Campaign mode!
If yours get too hot reduce its clock speed (you'll lose some fps but WH2 ain't a FPS).
