Some of them can too raid, but yes somewhat ironic.
There again, they are terribly arrogant aren't they? Perhaps unlikely to want to settle somewhere that had been a Skaven city for instance? (/me shrugs)
By the time you've left your Home Provinces, Order shouldn't be an issue there.
Was just an option for Provinces away from home (sack them then occupy them then leave them alone) on the higher difficulties when you (arguably) can't really afford to have an army babysitting conquered territory when it could be earning coin conquering more.
You can always go back and recapture it all later but it could be best just razing if you're playing tall.
You're not going to spend thousands of coin on a settlement that's going to Rebel in 5 turns and maybe be recaptured when you move your army out of the area.
Their natural 20% Ward Save pre-trinkets is I think the standout thing about them, but also, well, super deep in their tree. Once you get that, though, stacking Ward Save is probably their best path to make them a good combatant, and it actually works super well because their MD will tank as they tire, and even if they lose Martial Mastery, Ward Save is unaffected by it and will continue to hold up defensively. Can a Noble do that job better? Yes, but Nobles don't come with their own pocket Earthblood if you want it, and Nobles will often be spent on the campaign map farming Influence.
Their main 'weakness' as a fighter would be the lack of mount event after leveling up, which kind of force them to stay inside the main battle line to avoid being isolated. But since they're hybrid caster with a heal, that isn't especially hurting their usefulness.
Certainly not going to drop a caster, dragon, noble or handmaiden for one, which basically leaves Sisters... I suppose 15 -> 14 isn't so bad:D
I believe I did say it all comes down to personal play style. I tend to run Punitive lords, 2 dragons (preferably Star, but I'll take whatever I can get access to) a tanky noble to run interference, Light mage to pin cav/lords/monsters, a handmaiden to kite whatever needs kiting... then sisters.
Or heavy dragon spam with a fast trait noble on an eagle, a life mage on a chariot and a handmaiden on a horse. I haven't built a elven foot melee squad since my first playthrough, maybe that's why I've missed the Loremasters value. Thanks to those for providing me with further insight!
Edit: Apologies as it seems I hijacked this thread into a discussion about Loremaster, which wasn't my intent. I just wanted to try and help out the OP and only mentioned LM as an afterthought, as I neglected to mention them as I don't use them.
