It depends on army composition and formation your using, LSG actually replace spearmen and archers so to allow you to gain some more slots for other types of units, but you don't fully remove spearmen/archer units out of your army's because they also have high tier replacements, Phoenix Guard and sisters. LSG no shields are best used on flanks so a swap to shields is not a absolute priority since you wouldn't be running many, Far better to try and get other army components like cavalry or flyers before upgrading.
White Lions are a lot like Bronze Shield troops, basically they have protection but its the lowest kind. WL's have some other nice things like forest fighting and a large weapon.
If you can place WL's in the Woods....Say for an Ambush its well worth it, seeing as arrows have a tough time getting anyone in the woods.
Not exactly "on topic"; however, shields provide a chance to 'block' missiles, neglecting the dmg completely.
'Missile resistance', on the other hand, is a dmg modifier. That means that missiles will always deal dmg on hit, just reduced by the resistance value.
I knew that much, but thank you for explaining it anyway. I was just curious about the comparison. ^_^
