Theres no "yeah but the AI will...". The Ai won't do a thing about this strategy. On any faction in the game, if you have artillery you can destroy the towers, then sit there firing until you run out of ammo and the ai will not respond with anything. If you are willling to abuse the ai, the worst case scenario is, after you run out of ammo you wait for a draw and do it again.
In many situations you can cheese the ai without even having artillery. For example, Fey enchantress with a bit of ward save can wipe 2 full stacks of high tier infantry on the wall. They run around in circles repositioning instead of fighting back, so you're under attack maybe 1/20th of the time you're on the wall.
Oh and I don't know why you're claiming Skaven can't do this strategy. They are probably the best faction in the game at this, because they also get spells which will rack up more kills than dwarf artillery, and they have high damage spells that work on walls in both lores. Even in field battles they are good corner campers vs ai, because you just summon tons of clanrats in their way and stormvermin have high enough leadership to hold a line.
I think either you or I am misunderstanding what the op is talking about. Because as I understand it, he's talking about destroying towers then shooting at the ai's army until artillery runs out of ammo in a siege battle. There is fundamentally no way you can screw this strategy up, and no way for it to be ineffective other than running out of ammo. It is that easy. And leadership is a non factor because the ai will not attack you. So I can only conclude you are talking about something else.
I think the guy making the skaven cant and dwarfs are best comment is thinking about the corner camping in pitched battles not sieges.
Using artillery in exactly its intended function isn’t corner camping. That’s literally just playing the game wtf lmao and more a side effect of CAs very underwhelming defending siege AI. It’s not any players fault the AI is terrible in sieges
But yeah the rest is how I feel. I like to play sieges how I think would be most effective vs a player or smart ai. Which means if I've got 6 artillery pieces, well honestly I'm probably climbing the walls cause waiting for artillery to win takes too long (my computer doesn't have a good enough cpu/gpu to fast forward through large battles), but if its a tough battle vs overwhelming melee forces I'm gonna stay away. It just happens that means I'm gonna abuse the ai (in both cases because the ai responds terribly to units climbing and will run infantry around in circles on the wall when defending).
The problem, for me, is that it's an example of using the letter of the law to defeat the spirit of the law. Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should. At the end of the day, though, it's a single player game. Do whatever feels right
As a Warhammer nerd, corner camping is the most "unwarhammery" thing next to running your lord around, soaking tower fire--now, thats total cheese, and the usual nonsense you see in certain YouTuber's let's plays. How they think that's enjoyable to watch I will never understand.
No.
