Helblaster Volley Gun Worth It?

Is this unit even worth getting? I can't find its niche and it offers nothing other Empire artillery can't offer.

It's good against everything even if other artillery excels more in specific areas. Whether it's single large targets, elite infantry cavalry, etc it can do good respectable damage. It's maybe a bit of a waste against cheap chaff infantry, but then if you're fighting cheap chaff infantry at a point in the game you have these it should be a curbstomp regardless.

I'd say they are probably a better choice for the Empire in the mid-to-late game than mortars. The AP damage is incredibly important later on, especially against Chaos.

Hellblasters are basically good vs everything, as Smash said. Its a bit tougher to rate them in campaign where the AI's stupidity makes units like cannons better vs infantry than in MP, but the hellblaster basically wrecks everything from cavalry to monsters to infantry very quickly. Basically the only thing it doesnt have is range and arc. Unfortunately, the mortar, with good arc, has terrible AP and is useless vs anything other than infantry(still an amazing unit imo, but no point in denying its huge faults) and a hellstorm, which does have AP and range, has terrible arc and is still not effective vs large units or enemy arty. In campaign the debate is basically helblaster vs cannon, since the other two are just so niche, at which point it boils down to range vs raw damage output.

I didn't ever find a use for it to justify a slot. Hellstorms and mortars get me way more kills vs everything. Mortars especially in sieges cuz od their arc, but hellstorms rip their towers and walls down fast. Then a couple cannons for large single units and wiping out cav.
