Problems grouping units
Hi, I'm getting to grips with the game and enjoying it. Problem is I'm really struggling to group and un-group units on the battlefield. For example, say I have an army of hero, melee, ranged, artillery. I want to group my Lord+Hero as key 1 (so Ctrl + 1) then I highlight (using Ctrl) my melee and press Ctrl+2 .. so far so good, and range Ctrl+3 and artillery Ctrl+4.

But say I make a mistake and accidentally include a ranged unit into my melee squad and want to un-group hotkey 3 (or group 3) ...I can't, I can't seem to un-group a group or re-select a group.

So if I want to un-group a group how do I?

It should really be just as simple as highlighting the units I want and making a new group i.e. just doing Ctrl+3 again but that doesn't happen, it gets all weird and starts moving things around. For the life of me I don't understand it.

So if I want to group Lord as key 1 I press Ctrl + 1 ..done

If I want to make a melee squad as hotkey 2, I highlight said units and press Ctrl + 2 ...all ok

..but then suddenly if I need to include a hero into group 1 I'm screwed. For if I just highlight Lord and Hero and press CTRL+1 weird ♥♥♥♥ happens. Or nothing happens.

I really don't understand why this is so complicated when it shouldn't be. I mean Dawn of War is nearly 20 years old and it gets this right. It's not and shouldn't be hard, why is it?

Any help would be fantastic!

Thanks.

You could also select the unit you want to move, and add them to another group with the Ctrl + X number. No need to un-group anything.

So that Ranged unit you have in Group 2? Select the unit, and press Ctrl + 3 and it should be moved to group 3.

That doesn't really solve my problem though. Say I wanted to just make Group 2 something else or even ungroup them when I also have a group 1 and group 3 it doesnt happen :'(

There is a flag icon at the bottom, underneath the units. If you have a group selected and click this, it will disband the group.

It might work on individual units, and remove them from the group. But I haven't tried that.

G groups/ungroups units. I usually only use the Ctrl + # bindings once I have already formed groups using G or Ctrl + G to group the units and lock their formation.

^^ Yep, use G if you make a mistake with the groupings.
