Later when slots and cash are less of an issue, bugmans rangers start to become worth it. They have charge def vs large, and stalk. So they can perform a different role than quarrelers. They can flank with their stealth, and if they get caught out by cav/monsters they can survive a charge. They also have more speed than quarrelers. So everything about them says flank and shoot things in the back. Where as quarrelers sit behind melee lines and shoot from relative safety with less micro, and are better at ranged duels because of the extra armor and shield
Stalk, way faster, vanguard deploy, charge defense against large IIRC, REGENERATION, and so on and so on.
Also due to vanguard deploy, speed and stalk bugmans will fight on their own terms so the whole duel with opponent's ranged is moot, opponent ranged that isn't stalking as well will get obliterated by focus fire before anything else happen due to that; and as long as they don't lose models the health will regenerate overtime.
They're also unvaluable to get rid of enemy units lagging behind (like artillery and such) due to those same characteristics, even if they get hit by something a little they'll regenerate part of it overtime anyway. They reposition faster, are less easily countered by fast opponent due to stalk and ability to brace vs large.
They're also immune to psychology among other thing, so no worry about terror routing from a random terror inducing flyer roaming around.
Bugman rangers may be the unit in the game that cummulate the most "peculiarities" compared to the rest of their race, so they're kind of without equivalent. so if you have the money and buildings for it, bugmant rangers all the way over quarellers. Their only problem is heavily armoured stuff but you don't lack armour piercing with dwarves anyway.
