Dwarven Gyrocopters/Gyrobombers campain
Has anyone found any decent use for these? They can do a decent job but by the time you get them at tier 4 they are completely out gunned by some other unit that can do their job better. If they were tier 2 and 3 they would be really useful i think. searching on seems to have people using them for attack artillery after their defenses have left it but cannons do that job way better. I can't find anything that the Gyro's could do that, that slot couldn't be better utilized with another unit.

Whichever that Anti-Inf one is, it's pretty good. It just all depends on if you really need/want the better options or if you just like using those silly things.

Do the Dwarves require them? Not really. But they open up quite a few tactical options and do well as a reactionary force, harassers, flankers and chasers. They are opportunistic units with tons of mobility and utility - arguably the most in the whole roster.

Cannons are better off firing at monsters instead of doing counter-battery, since you only have so much time before the lines meet. Gyros are pretty much the fastest thing on the Dwarf roster, and their brimstone guns can put in good work against both arty and any large units you may be fighting. They're speedy and versatile so it's worth taking a couple.

With dawi as you get to the higher tiers your army composition should be phasing out (depending on numbers) quarellers in particular if your running five say replace two with Gyro's. The reason is dawi actual weakness though its a strength in the early is their powerful armored missile units, dawi have no mobility but that will eventaully catchup to them as tiers roll on other factions are getting more stronger mobile units, so a good a dawi composition would try to reduce missile infantry units as much as possible where it can and opt for more hybrid/faster units.

I usually reduce missile and add extra artillery. Dawi artillery is just devastating. start out with 2 grudge throwers and add 6 quarrelers and then switch to 2 cannons, 2 organ guns and 4 bug rangers. With limited unit slots i'm trying to figure out what to give up for them? If i give up 2 infantry to add 2 gyro's wouldn't adding 2 cannons or organ guns to that job better? I have to take 2 for my lords epic weapon so i'll give them a try.

They are the only thing the Dawi have that can function as Cavalry. Bomb the living daylights out of the enemy, then have them ready to run down fleeing enemies.

They are also vital when fighting in wooded area's where artillery wont work.

I would never giveup infantry units for ranged units because they not competing for jobs but with the kind of army you have I don't think it matters. In a army composition with quite a lot of range units as in your case gyro's will be less impactful.

Actually, Gyros do compete with infantry for slots, because their main and best job is beeing a flank guard. Thats why you replace some infantry on flanks with those to provide you with more presence, mobility and reactionary power there. You can of course see them as ranged troops too, but this heavily underestimates their true potential.

Gyro units in vanilla aren't really worth using.

They're okay, if you know what you're hitting at:
- gyrocopters need flank shots on infantry blobs as they fire in a bit of a line
- gyrocopters with brimstone should be spent on single targets except they're quite bad at it
- gyrobombers should be spent like a mobile WoM indepentent Urannon's Thunderbolt, don't rely on their actual missile damage to kill things

On paper it's insane, like 1100 or something like that, but in reality it really isn't that great.

I only found em good for sniping chaos cannon etc

I don't see them as ranged units they are hybrid units but they are competing with particularly missile infantry units for slots in a army composition for a few reasons one being dawi's ability to revamp their backline in higher tiers.

I started playing Dwarves again, I never really got around to using Gyro's but I'd like too.

My current army in the early game right now is differrent than before.
2 Xbows
4 Grudge Throwers
6 Warriors
Rest Miners

When I attack a keep, I just target everything on the door...By the time my dwarves are pulling up to it its already been opened, and my Dawi just pour through like a tidal wave.
I have a Runesmith now so I pop armor aura when the archers are in range.

I use five or six Gyros in my "mobility" armies that don't have any artillery. I mix the standard and brimstone gun ones so that anything I set the swarm on will go down no matter how much or how little armor it has. They work great on enemy artillery and for lord sniping, and with a little kiting also can kill off and rout the enemy ranged units.

When shooting at the main body of the enemy force Gyros don't necessarily get alot of kills but they take chunks out of the health pool so that my own infantry can finish them off.

The bombers though... Next to useless at shooting things but as the name implies better at bombing. I don't use them other than the RoR in emergencies.
