Has this any tutorial?
I got this game as a present. I am not a strong strategy player, but I like the Warhammer universe and so I gave it a try.
Everything seems to be complex to say the least. I have never played any game from the total war series before.
I simply do not know, what i have to do. Nothing. There is no tutorial, no explenation, nothing. I have no idea, what to do on the world map, I can not grasp any of the tecnical terms used.
I browsed the totalwar-academy website for 2 hours, now my head hurts. Thy guy in the videos goes through so much stuff without any detail.
At least I now know, which troops to deploy frontline, on flanking position and behind, but still I can only survive the the first battle in the campaign.
Is this the dark soules of strategie, do you have to follow the total war series from the first game, or is there actually a chance to learn, what to do?
And no: Reading, digging up information and watching tutorials for several hours before I can play for about 40 minutes (and having my ass kicked) is not describing a learning curve in my opinion.

Main faction leaders should actually give you a tutorial. And yes, they do. It's a big label on their leader's screen.

Like Tyrion the Highelf with the flaming sword? I just get dropped on the world map getting told, I should build some kind of elven vilage. That is pretty much it.

heres a basic defensive posture and set up -

Line of arches
line of spearmen
line of support infantry to flank (eg lions of chrace)

Cavalary to break lines if they are dont attack

- 1) Use archers to attack enemy frmo a distance pull them behind melee lines when they are close
2) use spearmen as a break to hold enemy infantry in place
3) take your support infantry on a line around your main line to attack enemy rear
4) do the same with cavalary
10/10 easy win

Since I just started the game, and it tells you how to basic things like camera, fighting the enemy army and other stuff, I don't know, what more you want?

May I ask, what exactly you have done, to make the game tell you that? I had to figure it out from the academy videos...

Go to new campaign, faction selection, Tyrion - on his character screen, tick activate introduction; whatever stands there. Or Hexoatl with Mazdamundi, Naggarond with Malekith or Clan Mors with Queek.

Also make sure to activate "high advisor help" on the options both for Campaign map and Battle. This way the advisor will pop up and give you useful information.

Then just follow this. Where is the problem? This game isn't as complex as it looks at first, so learning by doing applies here pretty much the same as to a shooter game, where you just run into open field and get your head blown away without any idea what the hell happened. There are no tutorials in existence to save you from newbie failures.

This is closer to Total War 20 than Total War 1, so yeah, there is a lot of assumed knowledge I suppose, though Shogun wasnt great for tutorials, and the battle tutorials were insanely hard.

If you were to start with Karl Franz, he's boring, but easy enough to learn.

You start with a lord, Karl Franz, leading a small army, every army needs a lord,
You also have a Capital City, Altdorf, in the Reikland Province, there are three other towns in the province.

Your goal is essentially world domination.

You build various buildings in your towns and cities, these generate wealth, unlock units for recrutment, or give other advantages.
You recruit more lords to lead more armies and destroy the enemy armies and conquer their cities.

Yeah, you have to follow the instructions on the basic tutorial and it will tell you step by step what you need to do.

It has some stages battles and also clearly describes what each thing on your UI is for. After the first three turns like this, it leaves you to do quests or whatever you like.

Don’t be afraid of screwing up. I probably restarted three of r four campaigns when I was first learning and realized that I had made a big mistake.

Also, add one of us veterans to ask for help or watch us play one evening. That would help you a lot.
