New Player: Take a Settlement Without War?!
I am fairly new to the TW series and Warhammer. Just have a question for something I encountered in-game.

At some point (playing as High Elves/Alariell) I managed to get a province capital from an enemy (Scourge of Khaine) as well as a minor settlement in that same province that they owned. However, the last minor settlement left in that province was already taken by another High Elf which I am 99+ Trusted Allies with (they have assisted me greatly).

My problem is, I want that last settlement so as to be able to gain the bonuses from having the whole province under my control, however I do not want to initiate war with that trusted ally just to take that one little settlement.

Is there any other way to take that settlement under my wing? I don't want to make them join my confederation because they have way too many settlements and I can't handle them all right now. I just want that specific settlement in my hands.

I remember in other such kind of games, there were options through the diplomacy to ask for a specific settlement in exchange for peace or money (or trade with another city). Couldn't find such a way yet though in this one.

Is there any way to gain that settlement without war?

Thanks!

Only with a mod.

Thanks! I'll give it a go later.

One more thing I observed: Enemy Heroes are able to freely roam my region (they are a faction I am at war with), yet I cannot even attack them in order to stop them from scouting (they are way too annoying as well - there are 3 of them running around my areas, passing freely from gates etc).

Am I missing something or you can send heroes anywhere without repercussions?

Only heroes can interact with other heroes on the campaign map

You can send heroes without any problem. You need to use heroes to wound them if you don't want them around.

You can confederate your ally if you are much stronger (best after he lose his army) but beware that you are on good stance with the other HE as it drops your relation to the other factions with 40 points for 5 turns

that's a minor issue compared to the ridiculous difficulty of actually getting to a confederation in the first place :/

If this ally is Elyrion it is quite easy to do it before turn 20, but if you have bad luck and done nothing for your relation this could means war with Tyrion and Alith Anar which is not very pleasure as you should seek out them as longterm confed option. (Alith Anars factionwide range buff is to op to miss as it stacks with all other bonus you get for your sisters)

Keep in mind that each hero action against a faction comes with a diplomatic penalty with that faction and (to a lesser extent) their allies. So don't go murdering your allies' heroes lol.

Oh if you're not in the beta you might run into a game breaking crash that ends your game when the pirates make too many pirate coves and get destroyed.

The beta fixes this, at least that seems to be the consensus so far. But just bear this in mind when fighting the pirates.

Yeah I would keep this in mind. Don't be too nasty to your own kin, when you need their confederations later on it helps to have a decent relationship.

Also if you're having issues with confederating don't worry, it's a hangup everyone has to deal with in this game. If in doubt get them allied and declare war on a powerful neighbour near them, peace with them after they get bored and leave your ally to get destroyed by them.

In theory this should help push them toward a desperate confederation. Though sometimes this can backfire and your ally just ends up even stronger. Though this isn't a terrible outcome either because it means they can deal with more threats and use better/larger armies to help out.
And sometimes the powerful neighbour just doesn't want to peace with you for some reason. A couple of factions just never peace (talking over 20 turns of zero conflict). So have fun with that.

The other alternative I've heard is to offer massive amounts of money for it but I'm not sure if it's worth the astronomical costs as opposed to simply betraying them and taking their lands for yourself by force.

Its long winded, costly, damages your relationship with your ally and not guarenteed to work, but you can use your agents and raiding to lower their towns happiness with the end goal of causing it to revolt. Then increase the odds in the mobs favour by attacking the walls and garrison.

Unfortunately its easily foiled if they send an army over to sort out the issue, but if not then you get your complete region while avoiding war.
