I guess this means you have never read all of the malus darkblade books
He has lead troops in battle several times throughout the books but he is best know for the leading cold one knights calvary
Nope, I havn´t, most of my reading was about his journey in the Chaos wastes. I guess I made too many assumptions, he will still kill indiscriminately under a rage which I don´t believe any other DE lord would do. That probably won´t be included in the campaign though, would be interesting if it did :).
Dark Elf politics are a complete summation of "survival of the fittest". Because of their spartan area of living which offers them no respite they've come ton reflect that in their culture. They use political intrigue, assassins, and magic to kill one another till the best rise to the top and become the alpha. Essentially any Dark Elf who manages to survive, rise the ranks, and kill all his competition becomes head honcho. Malus is not an exception, he's more of the same.
This is one of the reasons people were so upset when Malekith was made Phoenix King. He up to that point had demonstrated very little to no High Elven qualities and only Dark Elf qualities. They essentially make him "prison Dark Elf" where they immediately find compassion, fairness, and forgiveness the minute they aren't in the middle of a snow storm.
Malus if in full control of himself gives all his units -10 melee attack but gets substantial campaign buffs.

That is actually in the line of what I was thinking and wrote about.
He also was Malekiths right hand General while invading Ulthuan later, which also brought him fame and admiration. And the gazing eye of the Witchking himself.

Darkblade is a charismatic ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who actually knows how to manuipulate people. He makes a fine Drachau.
Doesn't that seem backwards?
Dark Elf 1: "Hey man, our leader is in full control of himself and is giving orders calmly and rationally"
Dark Elf 2: "Yeah, how boring, I don't wanna fight now."
Dark Elf 1: "Wait, he's now in a killing rampage where he would kill us in a second if we get near him and he wouldn't even't really notice if we left the battle field."
Dark Elf 2: "For the Tyrant of Hag Graef! CHARGE!"
Seeing someone spill blood whips the viciousness of dark elves up and pushes them into a frenzy
Hence the murderous prowess mechanic that greatly buffs de units after a certain number of units are killed
