What happens when you decline an ambush?
As in, do you remain hidden and wait for another army that you can ambush (and actually want to), or does that make you visible, or does it make you visible AND make you retreat as if retreating from a battle before it started?

"make you visible AND make you retreat as if retreating from a battle before it started?"

That one in my experience

I think if you are setting up an ambush and it ISNT descovered than they just go, if it is than the guy above me is right. If you have a hidden encampment such as with beastmen than it will also be same as above.

But if it is discovered, then you don´t even get the choice to ambush, or are you saying declining the attack then prompts another roll?

Basically like this...

If your army is in ambush at the end of the turn and gets discovered without a hostile army walking into it, your ambush stance is gone and you're defaulted to a regular move stance. That means free game, you're totally visible to everything on the map. As long as you aren't discovered by lords, settlements, heroes etc, you are invisible until something hostile walks into you. (Also, Beastmen's Hidden Encampment stance is not technically ambush, I think. It's just hidden, if something walks into you, you just get found out and no ambush is triggered. I think this is what happens because I set up 4 armies, one at the end as bait at one point, Empire army just walked through all 3 ambushing armies at 70% ambush chance per army... Wtf was that, it's stupid, to be honest... Beastmen can't set up ambush like anyone else.)

If your army is in ambush at the end of the turn and does not get discovered, you can trigger an ambush chance when a hostile army walks into you. This means you can trigger a battle but ambush fails because the enemy army discovered you last minute and is able to mount a defense of some kind at least. (This is still useful if you just want to force a 1v1 because AI has a tendency to reinforce all the time if allowed.)

If your army is in ambush at the end of the turn and remains undiscovered, and you trigger the ambush mechanic when a hostile army walks into you, you ambush the army and the army can't set up formation whatsoever on a disadvantageous (ambush) map.

In any of these situations, if you choose to decline the ambush, your army will just walk away like in a regular battle, and it counts as a loss (you cannot decline a battle a second time if you get attacked again during that same turn).

Oh okay, thanks so much mate, the last part was what I was looking for :) Hopefully the rest will also be of use to the lost souls who wander to the forum looking for answers after smashing their keyboard in two or sweating their balls off in this case.

No, only if you accapt it.

I think you get discovered more often but you don't have to retreat. But that means the enemy will most likely attack you and then you need to retreat again.
