High Elf Weakness
Does anyone know of a significant weakness of the elves? With the Vampirates coming out I’ve been wondering what a faction needs to bring with them to counter the OP high elves.

can you be more specific? What units do you find troublesome to deal with?

Are you referring to SP or MP?

Does the HE economy bother you also, or is it only a matter of the HE stacks being too hard to defeat?

And please don’t answer “all of the above” since some of the above elements are present in other factions also and also it would make starting a discussion somewhere impossible.

If you can get those tight little formations to rout I think you can break them up, Queen Bess might be able to do a number on them.

also I forgot: with which faction do you have troubles beating HE? Strategy required varies vastly depending on what faction you’re playing

Given the vampire coast and some of their units, High elves may not fair to well, bloated corposes on their more heavy units and just keep picking them apart, remember the more loses they suffer the worse the get, unless they are changing that.

I’m referring to units like the bolt thrower and archer spearman units seem unfair. Their arty can be anti large and anti infantry. But they are a well rounded faction and their missiles seem to out range anything else

HE will still wreck them. Unless Tyrion somehow managed to lose lothern in the beginning their economy is still miles ahead.

May be AI Tyrion shouldn't be able to confederate that easily. That should slow him down.

I think you will find V Coast might well be the op faction :steammocking:

Best bet is to pin them in place and shred them with overpowering arty support. Skaven are great at this... stormvermin + deathrunners to apply weeping blade works excellent to tarpit the elven line, then demolish them with plague claws and WL cannons. Purple globe throwers are extremely effective against elite units like swordmasters and phoenix guard...

High Elves are weak against artillery. They have fairly low HP units and tight formations. And only one artillery unit to fight back. Sure they have lots of flying monsters but that's nothing some T3+ anti-large can't clean up.

is this MP or ME? Because late into any campaign i have, High Elves just like to bring armies of birds and dragons. so id say bring lots of missle fire and anti-large. If the AI recruited regular armies then it would be the same tactic as any bit of regular warfare. Tie up units, flank, focus missle fire, win.

Elves are an alround superior race lorewise (military, economy, magic etc). Their only problem was that they have negative population growth- which is not exactly reflecting in the game. There should be some campaign mechanics that reflects this.

High Elves ... and weaknesses .... Ha! good one!

Only time I have issues when I get into a rock, paper scissors type fights. Like going heavy melee army with few shields, and they bring lots of seaguard and sisters of avalon...

However, even in such a fight its possible to win.. hiding in the trees and playing to the terrain tends to even up the odds.

High elves have good archers which do basically most of the work but weak arty.

Soak up arrows with cheap meatshields and either overrun their archers or blow them up with a lot of long range arty would be my objectives.

They really don't have any weaknesses, they have arguable the best infantry, powerful cavalry archers, heroes, and lords, and they have flying units. Their artillary is nothing amazing, but it exists, so I suppose an artillary heavy faction could try to keep a massive range gap to soften them up, but once they get in archer range it is completely in their favor again, bar a couple factions (but the ones I have off the top of my head would have had to be the ones advancing anyway due to worse / nonexistent artillary).
