Trollhammers are great for low model count units. Trolls, vargheists, vargulfs, rat ogres, giants, hellpit abominations, cavalry, etc. They are especially good against large models, as they can sit behind the lines and fire upon the enemies who tower over your own infantry.
got you. ive noticed the flame cannon can even ruin chosen actually because the projectile itself does high damage so it really is an all round good weapon, its just the range that throws me off. thanks for the info on trollhammers, i was trying to use them as an extra anti cav unit and it just waqsnt working but i can see some real potential against giants, shaggoths and dragons.
I usually only ever take 1 Fire Cannon in a Dwarf army and use the other artillery for longer range. It's worth being able to instantly dust infantry units even with the short range too. If you ever invade Ulthuan or Naggarond as the Dwarfs you'll appreciate having something that can wipe out friggen Darkshards and Archer units that they'll always have.
Taking an Engineer helps boost them too of course.
That is with Dwarfs being my favoured faction.
I am going to make a serious effort to acquire Flame Cannons in my current campaign and Trollhammers to.
