Maximum ward save/physical resistance for LLs
I thought it would be interesting to collate the highest available combined ward save and physical resistance (PR) for legendary lords. This is a key statistic you're looking for if you're trying to build a tanky lord. Ward save is a percentage reduction to all damage received, while PR is a percentage reduction to all non-magical damage received, the main type of damage in most contexts. You can find out more general background on resistances in this helpful guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1163324175

Without further ado, here are the combined ward/PR numbers I've come up with so far:

WH2
Hellebron 120% (70% from items)
Morathi 115% (70% from items)
Mazdamundi 109% (74% from items)
Kroq-Gar 105% (75% from items)
Settra 105% (78% from items)
Khalida 105% (78% from items)
Malekith 100% (70% from items)
Tyrion 93% (70% from items)
Arkhan 95% (78% from items)
Alarielle 90% (70% from items)
Teclis 90% (70% from items)
Tretch 90% (80% from items)
Khatep 88% (78% from items)
Alith Anar 80% (70% from items)
Queek 80% (70% from items)
Skrolk 80% (70% from items)

WH1
Archaon 117% (87% from items)
Fay Enchantress 115% (70% from items)
Kholek 107% (82% from items)
Durthu 100% (70% from items)
Alberic 100% (70% from items)
Louen 100% (70% from items)
Sigvald 92% (82% from items)
Grombrindal 85% (75% from items)
Thorgrim 85% (75% from items)
Ungrim 85% (75% from items)
Belegar 85% (75% from items)
Orion 80% (70% from items)

As far as I know all LLs (except Wurrzag) can get 30% ward from the Sword of Khaine, 40% ward/PR from armour and talisman, and 10% PR from beating Wurrzag. So I include this generic 80% ward/PR in all the numbers above; it's effectively the highest ward/PR available where the character has no more specific ward/PR.

I provide a separate % showing the amount of ward/PR from items, which includes the minimum 70% from the SoK, armour and talisman, as well as any ward/PR available in the enchanted item slot (e.g. 4% ward from the Divine Plaque of Protection). The remaining % of ward/PR is from the character's unique items, skill tree or base resist (e.g. Malekith 104% ward/PR consists of 74% from items, 10% from Wurrzag, and 20% base PR).

I believe the effective cap for combined ward/PR to be 90%. As you can see, many characters can get above this, effectively 'wasting' some of their ward/PR. Having more than one way to reach the 90% cap can be useful, however. Hellebron can even hit the cap without the Sword of Khaine.

I've deliberately excluded items with dramatic downsides for combat effectiveness, such as Folariath's Robe, a HE enchanted item which provides 30% PR in exchange for -50% weapon strength. I've also disregarded army-focused items like the Diamond Guardian Phoenix, a talisman which gives 8% PR for the bearer (i.e. much lower than the Talisman of Protection) and 12% PR for the whole army, as I'm primarily looking at items that buff the carrier most effectively, with an eye to one-man army builds.

Obviously this is very much a work in progress, so feedback would be welcome.

Unless CA / Games Workshop insisted on screwy resistance meahcnaics, ward save and physical should not combine additively, but multiplicatively. i.e. 50% ward save and 50% physical resist isn't 100% resistance from physical, it is 75% from physical and 50% for all other forms.

Everything is additive, but in total only 90% of an attack's damage may be be blocked.

For some reason I thought I heard 85% before.

I'm now updating the LL resistances list in the 'Choosing a Lord' section of my guide:

So far I added Empire, Beastmen, and Vampire Counts.
