White Lions of Chrace
Anybody else never use these? They are completely garbage at least for my playstyle and they are outdone by Swordmasters in litterally every department. They just get shredded by archers and by monsters like nobodys business.

What are your thoughts? How can I better use these guys?

They are not that amazing in campaign, as you said, compared to Swordmasters, but in multiplayer, they are pretty good for their cost. On the other hand, they are one of the most solid tier 3 units.

Yea in my last legendary campaign they did jack against the Bleakswords that came against them. Idk I just feel like the personel guard of the phoenix king should amount to more then my favorite thing to fight against with my archers and cav

They cost around 40% less than swordmasters/Phenix guards, of course they're going to be worse.

More on the point, they're mid tier units (T3). Which mean they'll replace a part of your spearmen before you're actually able to produce Swordmasters (T4) in a consequent quantity.

Treat them like swordsmen they have cheap upkeep compared to swordmasters and come out earlier

See I love playing as Tyrion and uniting Ulthuan however they just dont perform well against the immense archer and cav spam that is the High Elves/Dark Elves. I know they are cheaper but still.. Most of my armies even late still have standard spearmen for forntline grinding duties but the Lions just dont have a very long service life

Lions are pretty decent with some battle buffs, vet and/or some magic buffs, I only put about three units into a army though. If your running Lions what it means is you intend to be very aggessive so you will have to change up your army composition to suit.

ehm they are cheaper so you an have more of them in multiplayer battles.

they are more handy in teclis's campaign imo. where you dont see quite as much ranged spam as you do on ulthuan as tyrion

The time they would be good is before unlocking swordmasters (so turn 20-60 or so in campaign), but that's the time when the supply line penalty isn't actually that painful yet, so you can walk around with 2 armies of spearmen/archers/LSG (what I did on legendary Teclis). So, I'm not sure if they have a place outside multiplayer.

There's always Ali G the White Lion who gives them some decent boosts, though usually I pumped him full of swordmasters anyway.

Their main strengths compared to the aforementionned combo is their armor and armor-piercing ability. I was glad to have 3 squads of them during my Teclis campaign.

You can get them pretty early in the game and they are really good compared to other tier 3. That's their advantage. It helps more if you have Alastair the white lion lord.

Haven't played HE for a while since finishing my vortex campaign. In my opinion the White Lions is more of a an offensive unit that performs well for its price/upkeep against most units. They are not very good line holder though so you should leave that job to spearman. In late game they do get outclassed by Swordmaster but then it is usually overkill to build an army full of swordmasters so you may consider keeping a few of them for economy reason. If money is no longer an issue, then don't bother
