best bretonnian front line?
i know using melee cav is best but in infantry (for armies on a tight budget or yet to get vows) whats best? i keep thinking the pilgrams because they have solid morale but the men at arms has higher defence.

4-5 Men at arm (h) ,1 Corpse grailknight ,2 Foot squire can hold against every thing long enough .
Battle Pilgrims are solid in any modset and the Fay Enchantress gets skills specifically buffing them. I usually save Men-At-Arms for later on when they either have shields or are hired with rank. Men-At-Arms (Maces) are solid in SFO and look OP in Radious, the MaA (Polearms) are reliable against factions with few archers and lots of armor (i.e.: Chaos), and Foot Squires are good with Alberic and (with Mixu's Legendary Lords) Bohemond Beastslayer.

EDIT: LIke point lockout said, Grail Reliquaes are great support earlier on or against factions that use psychological attacks because they'll keep your men from routing at a paper cut.

so the men at arms are better, but only once i can buff morale?
MaA are more numerous and better at being more than an anvil than Battle Pilgrims (when used by lords other than the Fay Enchantress). Like you said, their morale becomes an issue in the early game, and getting them shields requires a smithy (4000gp if I remember correctly).

Bretonnia are often underestimated, while I have almost completely destroyed the Empire with my Isabella von Carstein, I'm just biting my teeth to the Bretonnian, they destroyed my Isabella s army in the first battle, the Bretonnian cavalry and heroes are very strong

Then throw Blood knights , Blood knights are greatest cavalry in warhammer they should eat all Breton cav .

Battle Pilgrims supported by a Grail Relique is my go to Anvil when playing as Bretonnia with Knights of the Realm being the Hammer.

thanks for the continued tips all. yeah blood knights are you only real counter to the bretonnian cav, their cav rakes up hundreds of kills for me on each unit every battle. ive settled on pilgrams with a reliqury thingo for a low cost front line, it may not be the best i can get but the frenzy and that they just dont break makes up for it imo, then i focused the upgrade for them to bring them nearly in line with the men at arms. that and i get a church in almost every province so i can replace them cheap as dirt, the cav is what matters

Pilligrims are your best option. Squires are not for holding the line at all, MaA have too small of an attack, so they will inevitebly die at some point, and poor morale will force you to invest more. Pilligrims are an overall more reliable option.
