2 Difficulty Settings Before Starting your Game?
Per the new patch, you now have 2 drop down choices, one for Campaign and the other for battles. Does anyone know the actual effects of these two options? I believe normal you would likely get a totally fair game, No buffs or Downsides. So if I jump my Campaign up to hard or higher, if I leave my game battles at normal does that mean its a fair battle?, as in they don't get some insane buffs? Basically im aware as a player we are facing an AI that can't Improve its battle tatics, however I dont like to see a pile of Goblins Break my top tier line of fighters based on AI cheats. I don't mind AI campaign (public order or money) cheats. If it presents a better battle for me later.

The patch didn't actually state what the effects are. Would love to know how to augment my game to my preferred playstyle.

I think battle difficulty is how tactical the AI plays.

Dont quote me on this though

Pretty sure these have existed for a while. Campaign should be like how severe the great power modifier is, public order, and those sorts of things. Battle should be the stat buffs enemy units get.

There was 2 difficulties from thebeginning, but battle difficulty was in additional options button, when you select your faction.

Battle Difficulty gives the AI units Stat buffs, such as extra Leadership.
The difficulty slider should effect AI gold amounts, but I think it does help AI aggressivness.

campaign difficulty = how much the AI is anti-player (normal and below, it doesn't have the anti-player features) and how many bonuses to growth/recruitment/construction cost it receives. Also, on hardest difficulties the AI armies are almost only elite units, and don't quote me on this, but I think this is due to the fact that the recruitment priorities are different on Very Hard/Legendary. On Normal/Hard, I've never seen a Doomstack of only Blood Knights, or only Phoenix Guard that require a specialized army to counter as opposed to your generic late-game army.

battle difficulty = how many bonuses the AI gets to its units. On normal, it receives no bonuses. On hardest, it gets bonuses to missile damage, Weapon Strength, but also accuracy (hidden stat) and Speed. Roughly speaking, on Hardest difficulty the AI gets around 15% buffs to most stats (I think there was a CA post mentioning this). 15% is bigger than it sounds since it applies to Melee Defense (less chance to get hit), but also Melee Attack (more chance to hit) and Weapon Strength (hit harder), so all in all the outcome isn't a mere 15% more of your units dying bur more like 30-40% more (unless you counter correctly etc.).

BTW, you could always change the battle difficulty (even lower it) in previous patches, all they've done in this patch is make it easier to access.

anybody know how this would affect achievement requirement?

Does campaign difficulty only decides whether you meet very hard requirement or do you need both campaign and battle difficulty set as very hard to meet the requirement.

I'm pretty sure those achievements are specific about it. "Win a campaign on Legendary difficulty with any race" as an example means winning with Legendary campaign (not battle) difficulty.

Someone said the battle difficulty doesn't affect the achievements, only campaign difficulty.

The thing I don't like about Battle Difficulty is that it buffs Leadership so much. It really changes the flow of a possible second battle because the first time around I have to wipe out or nearly wipe out much of the opponent's units to break them. (this is on Very Hard)

I think Battle Difficulty should only buff leadership a little in first field engagements. In secondary ones, maybe the buff is fine, or even more.

For sieges, maybe the buffs should be as high no matter whether defense or offense.

Campaign difficulty- How much bonus money the ai gets, a higher anti-player disposition and I believe faster growth. Also on legendary you get a big public order debuff.

Battle Difficulty- Buffs the ai in battle. The thing you'll really feel is the leadership buff. Units just won't rout at times.

Dude... these 2 difficulties have literally been here since forever :lunar2019laughingpig:

Seriously, for years... TW Empire, Napoleon, Shogun 2, Rome 2, Attila, Warhammer 1... every TW game that I know of and have played has them. I don't remember ATM if Medieval 2 and Rome 1 had them, but most probably they did.

Ever noticed how people say they play in VH/VH, H/H, VH/L, etc.? This means how they set their Campaign/Battle difficulties, for reference purposes when you ask something on the forums.

You won't find any information on this topic in the patch notes. Nothing has changed recently regarding that topic. Better refer to the game manual itself.

Search the Internet and the forums. You'll find tons of answers, some very useful and specific. That feature is very, very old.
