And I don't really find myself needing more Vampires than I have access to by the time I unlock them.
or are you telling me a ethereal duelist unit a foot focused melee character with really good items and combat stats and a hybrid caster/fighter are the same unit? they have different niches to fill for different situations it depends on the circumstances
Vampires fill the need for a strong single target melee combatant well enough, and have additional perks on top of that. A Banshee or a Wight King is still only a strong single melee combatant, and they both have less mobility and aren't really stronger than a Vampire in melee either, but comparable.
I don't really see how they'd be worth using over a Vampire if given the option.
Banshees on campaign map can put holes in walls, kill targets, or in your army, are a unlimited AOE dps er. Their scream is damn useful. It recharges too. Plus they are ethereal, so they shrug off most anything.
