Game constantly crashes when battling pirates

My game crashes every time I battle pirates. Not against elves or orcs or humans, just the pirates. Tried reinstalling, verifying, turned on unlimited memory, turned down graphics. Any help? My GPU is a 5700 XT, i5-8600k CPU with 16 GB of RAM.

Is it a crash-to-desktop during the battle or during the loading screen ?
Is your game modded ?

Using DX11 or DX 12 ?
I suppose your drivers are up to date.

Straight to desktop, always mid battle.
I have some camera mods installed, but I turned those off to do tests to see if they were the case. Game crashes anyways.

Alright so it doesn't seem to be an issue with your hardware, nor something coming from mods.


Which faction are you playing as ? Does it happens only with this faction or with anyone else ?
Is it with any battles or just this particular battle ?
The Vampire Coast specifically or one of the roaming fleet ?
Is it ANY Vampire Coast faction, or just one in particular ?
Naval battle or land battle ?
Is there a special action that got performed leading to the crash or is it just completely random ?

(Trying to pin-point the issue while researching if people had similar problems)

This is my first time playing and I'm playing as the High Elves. I played as the Empire a little bit the other day but I don't think there are any pirates around them. So really, so far this is my only playthrough and I'm playing as the High Elves.
It happens anytime I'm up against the vampire pirate guys, any of em.
I didn't even know that there are naval battles. So far they've all been land battle I guess
I don't think so. It always happens mid battle. But I pan my camera around a lot cause I'm always maneuvering my cavalry, doing the hit and run tactics and such so I might not see something that could trigger it.

I recall someone having crash as Lothern fighting the pirates. But no solution were found IIRC.
Could you test it out in a quick campaign to see if it crashes with another faction (like itza, and you just rush the Luthor Harkin who's nearby) ?


"naval battle" is a big word. They are islands battles in fact but yeah, they are here, somehow.

If you can try to take a deeper look, maybe one spell is crashing your game or something like that.
Anyway, in the worst case scenario : you can always swoop by the official forums and check it there and/or left a message. Or maybe contact their support.


If it's just a problem with Lothern, well, it's not fun but that's an issue you can kind of avoid at least while waiting for a solution.

I am using the 5700 XT which is an extremely new graphics card, so it could be that.

Could be ! From my experience, recent hardware have a lot of trouble despite their efficiency.

I am using a msi radeon 5700 xt and my game just crashed to desktop in the middle of a city siege battle (playing as undead vs bretonnia). this is the first crash in 3 days of playing, was not a temperature issue or CPU issue afaik.

but I do also have a constant glitch where the unit description popups stop loading sometimes until I reset the game.

i have encountered similar problems. It happens each time i am against the vampire cost faction, any of it and i have encountered it with now 3 factions: Empire, High Elves and Lizards.
Never had any of this problems before, using some mods but deactivated them to test, still crash.
No temperature or CPU issue too, my Graphiccard is a Geforce GTX 1660 Ti
