Carcassonne campaign
What do you guys make of the Carcassone faction and campaign? I like the idea of playing the Lady in the Lake, but man does it seem tedious and boring. The starting location makes it nigh on impossible to react to the 20 turn greenskin influence event that starts at the beginning, which means I'm dealing with rebel attacks early on. To get to them I'd have to take an army through wood elf territory, risk pissing them off, then deal with attrition as I move my army over at least 3 turns to get to a greenskin settlement. And then the armies just seem so weak early on, most of them having Leadership penalties means they flee quickly. I also don't like the start position being up against the wood elves factions, one of whom I start at war with and don't really know why. I guess I'm meant to fight the wood elves right away?

Anyway yeah ... just not feeling this faction too much ... am I doing it wrong?

Yeah, you can farm that greenskin thing quite easily. It slows your expansion as far as territories, but it gives a great boost in income and experience.

I guess that makes sense because at the same time you can be developing the confed vows, so by the time you come out of the rebellions you'll be rich, have experienced Lord's Army, and ready to confed Parravon.

Do you guys tend to fight the wood elves? Who is your main antagonist? When I play as Empire or VC it's obvious who my main enemies are, but Carcassone seems mostly surrounded by potential allies. I guess that isn't a bad thing.

bretonnian campaigns are different compared to other races, where it is a race to try and grab territory early. Only king louen can expand early, and that is only to take marienburg and raze the orc settlement, after that he has to wait to build up his eco and army, tech into diplo and then look to take out the VC faction.

The other two dont have that option. So you farm rebellions while you wait for diplo techs and the PO penalties to go away and then you look to expand.

When I play as bretonnia, i mainly end up fighting norsca. Caracassone, its skaven and the southern realms, then possibly WE depending on how the game diplo goes. If they like me, then fine. If not, well then burn that forest to ash

AS being said - the Greenskins are there to allow you getting items, levels and gold. I guess the best way to expand a bit is Estalia. Which was easier in Game One because tehre were no Skaven... ^^

Also rushing the confed-technology is wise, and while you do that the Fay can help out allies against Moussillon or whatever enemies are around to strengthen the bonds...

And then, eventually, the Fay can go conquering the lands beyond Bretonnia.

Its a different kind of pace, true, and maybe one more for "turtle-ers" that take it slow...

Carcassonne is my preferred Bret faction.

Four Lords raiding my own land the first 20+ turns really speeds up the Orc spawns and allows Carcassonne to start out their game with over 20k gold, max or almost max Chivalry, four fairly high level Lords, and the ability to recruit battle pilgrims to go bully the Southern Realms with while simultaneously expanding the other direction through confederation.

Or at least that is how I did it in WH1, I know they probably changed a few things and I haven't gotten to any of the Old World factions in ME yet...

They changed it so that raiding your own home only gets you -3 public order which means you can't speed it up much anymore.

3 per army or just 3 total? That is still -12 with four lords at once if it works the way I want it to.

Carcassonne is pretty much the only playable bret faction. That replenishment bonus factionwide is a game changer. Brets struggle with replenishment like greenskins because they don't get any skill or tech for it and don't have a hero for it either.

I also love it. Not as Carcasonne which I dont play but as king I love training on orcs. Sometimes I get out of city just to speed up rebell so Ill have to deal with it 1-2 times more before event ends.
Being bad king pays off.

Just wondering, wouldn't raiding give negative trairs and reduce chivalry?

Yes, but they are tiny compared to the benefits and negative traits can be removed later on.
