or I could just throw some Saurus at them, given they're both from a T1 building.
Saurus are perfectly capable of delivering a nice flanking charge. Much more devastating than a couple of javelins, too.
If you have that much why ask about a tier 1 unit?
Wtf? Chameleons are monster killers. Their poison slows the enemy so they can never be caught
most of the other tier 1 units i wont use but i get tempted with freemen malitia and miners
2nd in campaign skinks are filler units and early game flankers. They're dirt cheap and unlike saurus warriors they can catch foot skirmishers with ease. Furthermore, the ones with javelins can be used to help zone off lower tier skirmishers like marauder horsemen, pistoliers, skaven slingers etc, or to focus fire monstrous units like rat ogres that would otherwise prove a bit of a challenge to your saurus warriors. Skink skirmishers and chameleon skinks are honestly pretty trashy in campaign, since you're better off bringing cav/monsters to counter enemy skirmishers. I wouldn't recommend them, though I would consider them more useful than terradons, who do practically no damage and are basically potato tier in all ways.
Chameleons get run down by cav and monsters, so I don't find them useful - in addition, while Saurus have no Large bonus they do deal sizeable damage to even anti-infantry monsters.
But Saurus can munch lords anyway...
But for all other lords this is not the case and you need to fill out the rest with cheap skink units unfortunately, Also Skinks aint all that bad they are fast can resist a nice amount of missle damage also to boot they have got good early game stats, and if you manage to get a javalin or the other one behind enemies they actually dish out a nice amount of damage
