How to best use the hierotitan?
So I just finished my VH Settra campaign and overall I really like the Tomb Kings, they might even be my fav faction. But, I struggled to properly use the hierotitan, so I did some testing in custom battles and fount the hierotitan to be - dissapintingly - losing a lot of straight up 1v1 encounters.

- It doesn't seem to be pacticularly strong vs. large monster style units (it lost 5 out of 5 matches vs. a Star Dragon quite badly, with the SD having between 20-40% HP left), whereas the necrospinx is excellent in this regard (killed 5 out of 5 star dragons relatively easily (>25% HP left), was even able to beat Kholek 3 out of 5 times).
- It doesn't seem to be great at infantry either... against 3 units of chaos marauders (the normal, non-AP ones!) it won, but after quite some time and with only 5500HP left, whereas a warsphinx had about the same (so lost approx 2200HP less bc it's base HP is lower) but killed them much faster. It also lost very badly vs. a unit of normal chosen, not even killing half the unit...
- Obviously it's spirit leech and Shem's burning gaze are quite awesome but can only be used once or twice a match.
- Finally, it's speed doesn't make it a great flanking unit either.

So, my question is: has anyone found a great way to use the hierotitan? I'm sure there is good use for it but so far, I haven't found a reason to pick it over the sphinxes unless I've hit a recruitment cap.

Well, I know titans make bad leader assassins. After the initial damage from their spells, the titan just can't do anything significant to a single target. They're better at disrupting infantry than actually killing them.

Well they can 1v1 a big cat easy

Wouldn't you use them as a backline menace, effecting the crunch of the frontline from overhead?

Hmmm. I suppose they are quite useful against ethereal units and should be used mostly as support for the frontline... Thanks!

From my experiences so far - they're pure sponges. Takes ages for a titan to drop, but it won't deal anything much itself
(and no, it's burning gaze isn't awesome. Even aimed right into a blob, it often only kills a handful units - about as much as a single melee attack would do).

Gives them best use to bind enemy units so you can drop a vortex onto the blob, alternatively pepper the bound units /w a casket of souls (either one deals close to nothing to single-model stuff like titans themselves, rendering the friendly-fire aspect a mere tickle).

They also take incredibly low damage from most frontline units you face and when ai blobs up on them, you can cast vortex/line spells with reckless abandon on the units that are trying to take him down. Spells and abilities dont seem to hurt him much from what i see.

I just have khatep and my priests cast onto him.

Titans are tanky, and have a trait that gives you more Winds of Power I believe (similar to a Casket of Souls) so they'll empower your casters.

Hierotitan - all rounder
Necroshinx - anti large
Warshinx - anti infantry

Imo they are so disapointed for killing role, all of them kill too slow if compare to Uhsabi / Snake / Necropolis .

Likely a typo or possibly a reference to a Pokemon.

hierotitans are basically damage sponges

send them in, let them soak in damage, drop nuke spells right on him when the enemy is blobbed if you have magic on your side. don't forget to use spirit leech on the enemy lord with your titan.

they attack slowly and their attacks don't seem like they hit as many people at once as they should, so they're best used for absorbing damage and causing a massive disruption.
