Unit size setting?
Back in TW:Warhammer 1 it was commonly accepted that the game was balanced around "normal" unit size.

Consequently the thinking was that magic heavy armies were better off playing at normal unit size since the AOE spells don't scale. Also that the gameplay and pacing were just more balanced in general with the normal unit size setting.

Is this still true in TW:Warhammer 2? Now that I have a rig that can handle the game on all Ultra settings, I'm tempted to turn unit size up to Ultra as well, will this affect the balancing of the game? (Specifically in Campaign, solo.)

I am also very curious about this. I always took it for granted that the game was roughly balanced at all sizes, but I play on Ultra and Vortex spells can still easily kill 200-300 troops per cast.

As far as I'm aware Warhammer 2 hasn't done anything about this--bigger unit sizes still make single entity units and spells weaker, and smaller sizes make them stronger.

The game is balanced around Large unit sizes. But Ultra means you get to see more people get mulched.

MP Quick Battles default to Large. And highest unit count that in built graphic presets have is Large also. Which indicated that Large is the unit size game was developer for.

It also feels best in my opinion. Ultra feels unresponsive and too cramped. Thanks to map size being the same despite giant armies. And on normal units are too fragile.

Also didn't they patch the magic not scaling issue pretty quickly in WH1 or is this not what the OP is talking about.

Good info, thanks for the responses guys!

I think I'm gonna roll on Ultra since I'm playing Skaven and I'd like to see some absurd numbers.

Large is the way to go.
