Maybe they'd be good for defending a Settlement during a Siege Battle?
they were more or less useless pre-patch (good at killing vamp count zombies (until more zombies get summoned on them) and literally nothing else), and given that there are now juicier units available they're even more useless :P
These are the two biggest problems IMO.
I know they can do good damage but from my experience bot units perform the same way against low and medium armor units. The thing is that the Ratling is super good against lords or big targets like dragons and against heavy armor units. The Warpfire Thrower is not nearly as effective against those targets as the Ratling is. What does the Warpfire Thrower gets to compensate apart from the slightly lower upkeep and price?
I use the same strategy and I used to combine both Ratlings and Warpfire Throwers. The thing is that I've not found that that the Warpfire Throwers are more effective at killing infantry while the Ratlings can destroy high value targets like big monsters or lords. My problem with the Warpfire Thrower is not is capacity to kill but rather that he's just much less versatile than a Ratling
Warpfire throwers are fun, but I do think rattling gunners are just a better unit, in pretty much every way.
Not when they are leveled up in the workshop!!!
but if you level other things up in the workshop they go from 'very powerful' to 'absolutely overpowered,' whereas warpfire throwers go from 'bad' to 'meh'
