How do I use the Hell Pit Abomination in campaign?
It just got one and it's not that great. Against Dwarves it was tying up on unit of hammerers but not killing many of them. Then some slayers got on to it and it got taken down to half health fairly rapidly. I was able to move it but over all it seems very expensive for something that does not kill or tank so well. Do I just sack it and get a doom-wheel instead?

Hell Pit Abominations will murder almost anything large they can get their hands on. However they die to anything else:
- ranged firepower will murder them due to the lack of armor on the Hell Pit and the MASSIVE hitbox
- - - this includes basic HE archers and the like
- - - and armor-piercing archers like Sisters of Averlorn and Darkshards
- - - and ranged weaponry like the Bone Giant or Warp Lightning Cannon
- - - not so much catapults as those are only good against infantry, not single targets
- it has fire weakness which never really helps
- it is atrociously bad against infantry, especially halberds and even spearmen due to low armor.

Despite its massive HP pool and regen it is by no means a tank. It is a dedicated anti-large killer and useless at anything else.

So when fighting Dwarfs, which have next to no large, just bring Doomwheels. But against Lizardmen, to counter the dinobot spamstack you may want to use Hell Pits; a Hell Pit just wins the duel against a Carnosaur last time I checked (pre-patch). A Hell Pit would murder a dragon quite nicely, but you have other tools for that (Warpgale + missiles of choice).

Also, Slayers have terrible AP damage for an anti-monster unit. But Hell Pits have no armor. Thus Slayers murder Hell Pits.

I hear Doom-wheels are pretty decent but to be fair an anti-large unit should do well against a large unit.

Slayers are basically meant to slay exactly those kinds of single beasts and monsters. The entire rest of their life is dedicated to slay those

Since Dwarves naturally have high leadership it can be hard to make use of the abominations Fear/Terror, however it is still a great formation crusher. As for the Slayers, they're a brutally strong anti-large unit, especially those with great weapons, and left to just whale into your abomination will leave it with some nasty scars in no time.

Right then. I'm switching it out to my other army so it will mostly face Pirate Coast and target crabs etc, and I'll grab another Doom-Wheel or Doom Flayers for my Anti-Dwarf army. Thanks. :retro_beer:

Yeah, crabs are a fantastic target for it as crabs aren't the most damaging but they are absurdly well armoured, absurdly tanky, but don't have a bonus vs large last time I checked.

(Of course, you can just shoot the crabs with Warp Lightning Cannons and your fancy new Weapons Teams. That also works. :P )

Doomwheels or Doom-flayers will go nicely to munch some Dwarfs, yes-yes!

If you want something a little more tanky, get a couple of rat orgres supported by stormvermin, perhaps four. They can be utilized similarly to cavalry and have piercing, so that's probably what you want.
Skaven don't have any large monster "tank" units. You have to rely on expendable units like skavenslaves to distract the enemy.
And a warp lightning cannon is also a great way to deal with armored opponents.

And yes doom-flayers are just made for fighting dwarves. Right now dwarves don't really have much to deal with them.
