Krell
I was completely oblivious of this guy's existence until I was looking at some artwork recently. Obviously, he looks cool as hell. But is he (and that decrepit old bastard) cool enough to endure a mortal empires campaign? Are their powers combined fun to mess around with?
Thanks

all vampire lords are really strong cause they are 2 for one deals

both very powerfull spellcasters AND melee combatents

kemler is one of the only vampire lords that sucks in melee however he makes up for it by having the ability to summon krell

so instead of a 2 for one you get "2" lords in your army its fun

He's fun enough but nothing too special. Krell is especially fun when he doesn't degrade. Watching him do his thing is fun.
It's pretty much two grumpy old men duo trying to control/destroy the world. I do recommend watching a lore video on the two. Most won't realize he's a bit of a badass old man.

I was excited about Krell... at first. But after a while I felt a bit meh about him. He's just another tanky melee hero. He looks really cool. That's about it.

It's been a while since I played Kemmler though, so I could be wrong about that.

I just did. Pretty amusing. He's like a warhammernized version of a Saturday morning cartoon villain. In a good way. One question, though: is he considered an undead or just a human that unnaturally extended his life?

I wish CA would update Kemmler so that he had a special screen in his campaign that allowed you to equip krell with special equipment and also level up krells skills

Considered the second, a grumpy old mortal that´s extended his life far too long but isn´t ready to take the step to undeath. :)

Krell should be a "companion" LL like Isabella Von Carstein to Kemmler, not a summon, he is not a summon.
He should have a skill tree akin to that of wight kings, and his unique items. Armor of the Barrows and the Black Axe of Krell.

His current state in the game is extremely bittersweet, and the only mod that turns him into an agent at least, is outdated garbage for SFO...
I would personally pay for a real mod.

I've completed a ME campaign as Kemmler and Krell. I strongly recommend it.
For added funsies, there's a mod by Cataph that changes Kemmler into a Horde undead faction. Really fun, but skip if you want a more traditional vampire counts playthrough.

Heinrich Kemmler is the OG Warhammer villain, the very first named villain in all of Warhammer. He holds a very special place in my heart. He is a lichemaster, not a lich or a vampire and certainly not undead, as his heart still beats and his lungs still breathe. But he isn't mortal anymore, he cannot die, he is... THE LICHEMASTER.

He starts off very weak, no stronger than any random necromancer, and its only once you get your campaign rolling, collecting artifacts and magic items, that Kemmler finally becomes strong.
His army is immune to all attrition (ridiculously OP), and he has bonus relations with Chaos factions, allowing you to take his army on grand adventures anywhere in the world. Beastmen are ready allies anywhere you go, and due to your start position confederating Mousillon is actually practical.
Upgrade your Krell line ASAP. At the top level he stops decaying and just becomes a permanent addition to your army. Just make sure you keep your army at 19/20 so you can still summon Krell during multi-army battles.

My one wish is that they would give Kemmler his tabletop powers. He had his own lore, 'Lore of the Lichemaster', basically an overpowered version of necromancy. He had cool unique units, like Wight King Chariots (Great Weapons) and ethereal casters with lore of heavens. Lots of good stuff.

CA don’t want our money, if they did they would get cracking on the dlc! ;)

You know I'm not sure.
Way back when, "The undead" had three Lord Options.
Necromancers, who were living humans and Lv4 spellcasters
Liches, who were Necromancers who died and raised themselves, undead Lv3 casters
Vampire Lords, who were, well, vampires, and Lv2 casters

I think Heinrich was a Necromancer, so still alive, but very old. I do remember some fluff about Heinrich eventually Liching, but I think all his tabletop rules were as a necromancer

But eventually, everything in the Vampire Counts Army Book became "undead", to streamline tabletop.

You know I actually really miss that from the old Warhammer editions. Necromancer Lords were level 4 casters and Vampires were only level 2 outside of Mannfred who was the only level 4 spellcaster Vampire though he took a hit to his physical stats for it. It really made you mix it up in your armies having to choose to bring a high level necromancer or more vamps for sheer fighting power. As shown in game, there is absolutely no use anymore to have necromancers at all after they changed it. It's really sad.

i love em, a wizard and warrior in 1 yet 2 differrent creatures, i had a blast going through ME with that faction. Isabella still my favourite but Krell is for sure a close second!

A couple of moons ago I gave the old creep a spin, and managed to take much of the old world for myself. That was admittedly just after the big vampire patch, so your mileage may vary in terms of balance experience. But the color scheme and different start by themselves made it interesting enough to power through to the end for me at least.

It IS mostly just regular vamps all over again, but with a nice increase in necromancer hero levels. If you so far haven't played the new and improved faction, then I'd say go for it :)

Krell is a powerhouse, especially as you level Kemmler up so he stops decomposing for being a summon (he is a spell). Kemmler is, well. OK. He gives off mad bad guy vibes, but is -even with the addition of a horsie- mostly just an amped up necromancer. With the new bloodline system in effect his necromancer lord bonuses seem kinda silly, since you'll want to play around mostly with them anyway. But a proper RP campaign as Kemmler and his decrepit army of hedge-nercromancers might well be a lot of fun!
