Countering Cygors (S.P. or M.P.)
Beastmen units are relatively fast, so most of their army slams into mine before I can get close enough to damage the big guys. Because their better mobility allows the B.M. to surround me quickly, I'm too pinned down to advance.

With any other artillery, I could just circumvent the main rush with a super fast melee or skirmisher unit. Unfortunately, the Cygors themselves are more than capable of pulping units from up close AND at a distance. Any unit with enough punch to handle them is slow enough to be intercepted by the B.M.'s faster than average cavalry.

Amazingly, they are even more of a hassle in Single Player; at least the Cygors are prohibitively expensive in multiplayer, but the Warherd of Chaos has armies with have half a dozen of these fiends.

I can handle the rest of the Beastmen roster, and have managed to win often enough in spite of these behemoths, but is there any hard counter or tactic I could exploit? (I normally play Empire/Lizardmen, but advice for any faction is welcome).

EDIT: For SP, MP I've no clue.

Anti-large cavalry or anti-large artillery, or BOTH. First pound the Centigors into pulp, since they qualify as large too, and even the Cygors will be loath to fire into melee and risk hitting the higher-value Beastman cavalry, then push straight forward to the Cygors themselves. Remember to use forests to your advantage too, since even Cygor boulders won't punch through trees.

For Empire, regular Knights are cheap enough (relatively speaking) to be fielded in considerable numbers. Support them with cannon and a Luminark, or perhaps even just grab an army mostly full of Free Company Militia to be vanguard deployed right next to the Beastmen. Set them all to emerge from hiding and fire at the Cygors once the main rush has passed them by, and the horrors will fall quickly.

For Lizardmen, Cold Ones are invaluable, though if your micro is good, consider using Terradons to harry the Cygors by cycling them in and out of melee. A Bastilodon with the...Ark of Sotek? No, wrong one...the laser crystal that works like a Luminark...that one, is also good here, since the dinosaur itself is tanky enough to withstand Cygor boulders and fire off a good few blasts itself whilst your main force obliterates the rest of the Beastmen.

as empire you have a fckload of cannons (if not, then why??? their motto is literally "faith, steel and gunpowder"

handgunners and great cannons will make fast work of anything large
rockets will make fast work of anything packed (especially the regimennt of renown rocket that thing is OP)

the regiment of renown war wagon with the hellblaster mounted on it, if you can get your hands on that one later on... and you use it to flank, and you get some nice side shots you'll rake in hundreds of kills

Use cheap flying units, like harpies, hawk riders, eagles, terradons or manticore to keep the cygor from attacking your main army. Or use cheap flank units like dogs, goblin wolf riders, peasant rider to suicide into the cygor.

I've never countered a cygor in my life. I've just won every battle against beastmen because any soldier who's not currently being vaporized by falling 20 ton boulders is winning.
