Playing Multiplayer Co-op with mods - NEED HELP
Me and my friend wanted to play the Mortal Empires multiplayer campaign with mods last night and we can't seem to get it to work at all. We had the EXACT same mods and the game still said our versions were incompatible. We spent 3 hours trying to get it to work and we still couldn't. We could play together without mods but for the purposes of our game we needed mods. Does anyone know what the problem is? We had the same versions of the game, the same mods and everything, yet it still said our versions were incompatible.

Make sure you and your friend have not opted into any betas.

Try disabling one by one mod to see which one causes the issue.

Load order must be the same and mod versions must be the same (Kaedrin Mod manager is great).

Try disabling skill point per level mods if you're using any
For some reason they trigger the "not using the same mods" flag when joining games, friend group I play with haven't been able to use any sppl mods in multiplayer since the DLC, no idea why
We tried using just one mod in our game and that was unlimited money. Still said the host version differs from yours.

As I've stated, but got no comment regarding this, I'm going to post the solution that works 100% for me.

After two hours i found the solution to play coop with my friend. Launcher mod loading order is bugged. If you click start button launcher shows notification with mod loading order. These lists should be exactly the same for you and your friend. Only in this case the versions of the game will be compatible. Setting up the order in the manager does not work, so you need to set the order manually. I could find it in the game files in the folder:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Launcher\<SOME DIGITS>-moddata.dat.

Open it with notepad and manually move the mods and after that they will be loaded that way. After that, you can play with the mods again, as before.

UPDATE: I wrote simple program that helps to fix mod order.

https://github.com/elamaunt/TWModFixer/releases/tag/1.0

The program corrects the order of loading mods, if you specify the moddata.dat file configured and the one that needs to be fixed. You can quickly set up mods for playing with a friend without tiring comparing them in the launcher.

And I'm just going to drop a:
You're not trying to play Mac/Linux with Windows, right?

Had the same issue with someone on Rome 2. It turned out that one of the mods simply refused to work so once we cut that one out, the campaign loaded fine.

Its an arduous process of checking every single mod to see if it works but then you have something I guess.

Also as Whoopar states, crossplay of os doesnt work

We're both playing on Windows. Thank you for this fix. I will try it and let you know the results.

Hello. We have the same problem with my friend.
I identified that my mod is the cause of incompatible versions (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1970440753)

There are surely some datas that bring this incompatibility when they are modified. I really would like to know which ones. Then I could solve the problem.
hello has anyone figured out how to fix this issue?

Both delete launcher, verify files by using Steam, reactivate mods, play.
