why cheaper?
Also I cant mount a Noble on a Dragon.
Eagle <3
Flyers in general are a fundamental part of HE army at there respective tiers they unchain you from being very restricted and having to play noob box, the real question is how many is right number I would personally go anywhere between 3-5 Eagles, so in the late , I would have left 2 rank 9 Great Eagles and then swap out 3 for phoenix and/or dragons.
I like 6 dragons in my late game armies 2 moon 2 star 2 sun
But early game yeah. As HE I like using my ranged units. But if enemy artillery is superior then I will end taking too many losses. So eagles help there. (I mostly use them as an expendable unit to take out enemy ranged.. or to engage any flying units)
White Lions might stand a chance but by the time you have enemies that can bring high armor units, you'll have Swordmasters of Hoeth anyway.
Even Eagle Claw Bolt Throwers can do better than Eagles with their alternate infantry-shredding ammo.
When I fought DE and they used Corsairs (3 units: left, center, right), I basically had all of my 8 Archers focus fire on the Corsairs unit in the center. That unit got deleted, even with 80 armor.
Also, Eagles are freaking amazing, just go watch some Lord of the Rings.
Third, I have no idea how people are so bad at using Eagles...They are literally really good in the early game and into the mid.
By the time most people have a dragon their leader is level 20 already.
I can have lot of eagles in a lot of armies by then.
If Im playing Alith, I ussually dont have the economy to support a flight of dragons. I ussually just build more armies and stick to what the Leader focus is.
So if they get discounts on Archers they get Archers.
If they have discounts on Reavers and Silver Helms they get those.
If its Chariots its an army with Chariots.
I also tend to play ME.
Eagles are also a 1 turn Global Recruit if I need more flyers.
Also the Title of the Thread,
Playing the elves...do you like Eagles or Dragons.
I'm sure power gamers prefer powerful things.
Well no kidding,
I prefer Eagles though.
Dragons are fun too, but it wasnt a question of which is more powerful.
It was what do I like.
One of my Nobles mounted on an Eagle will trash your Dragon BTW.
Oh and in case you were wondering...
My Whitelions benefit a lot by getting that nice Ambush Attack from my Lord choice, afterall I can put them in the tree's right next to the army that we will be destroying.
What I cant afford though is to wait forever for dragons to be built....I have deadlines and three generals to kill every 20 turns...So turn times for recruiting matter, gotta lot of ground to cover in Mortal Empires.
Sisters of Avelorn is a T4 unit, not really a fair comparison to the T3 Eagle.
Use Silver Helms instead to murder artillery. I hope we're talking about campaign, because that's the context I was using. Because, the HE don't have any enemy using murderous artillery in the early game, as far as the AI is concerned. (Of course, except fellow HE and DE but it'll just be a Bolt Thrower duel if that's the case.) Even if they do, they usually turn around to try to hit your Silver Helms anyway, and you can dodge those shots pretty easily while your own Bolt Throwers shred their artillery. Using an Eagle to distract enemy archers is really too much. Your Eagle will take so much damage when you have Spearmen w/ shields, and LSG w/ shields that can block 50% of arrows. Even Silver Helms have shields (bronze though, I think).
I don't think I ever recruited a T4 HE unit. They're just that boring of a campaign. (I usually play ME which is why I get bored of HE so easily.)
