Dwarven Thunderers VS Quarrelers?
Hey, friends!

I was wondering what the difference is between these two units? I first thought the Thunderes was just a better version of the Quarrelers. Thunderes are slightly more expensive than the Quarrelers, but their stats doesn't really make them superior. Thunderers have AP, but that's pretty much it? Also seems like the Quarrelers can shoot over other friendly troops while Thunderers can't. Is that all the difference, or am I missing something?

As you see, thunderers are meant to be used against heavy armored enemies. Quarrelers aren't going to cut it well enough against stuff like Chosen.

I see. Is the other points I mentioned correct?

That quarrelers shoot in arc? Yes.
Thunderers, and all straight shooting units like that (like canons, ballista, the empire handgunners) require a direct clear line of sight to their target. If their target is big, like a giant, they are able to shoot at it while it's in the middle of your troops, since you know, it's huge.

I noticed dwarf gunners usually shoot thru other dwarfs most of the times unlike let's say empire handgunners tho

Big fan of quarrelers behind a line of thunderers, with a hero unit in front to tie up the enemy while still allowing the thunderers to hit the target

In general thunderers are just better than quarrelers unless youre really bad at deployment. Poor arc shouldnt matter in most cases for such a relatively short ranged unit(matters more on a cannon or something), and thunderers will even outperform quarrelers vs most relatively soft targets. For example, even vs a unit with just 40 armor, thunderers will average 20ish damage per shot as opposed to 15ish, and they obviously perform far better vs real armored units. The only real perk of quarrelers is if youre cash strapped(unlikely in campaign), or if you need to counter archers(a task far better left to flame cannons or even grudge throwers)

This. Throw in 2 irondrakes between the thunderers to quickly break all that come through and some artillery in the back and you have a deadly all shooting army the Skaven would be proud of

Run two custom matches
Quarrelers then thunder vs packs of chosen

Then you will have your answer

The crossbows won’t do ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to chosen and gets butchered
The guns will actually get kills

But crossbows have an arc and can shoot over a infantry line

Guns can not but CAN shoot over infantry lines if they are fighting bigger things like monsters or cavalry

Don't forget terrain. When placed on a hill slightly higher than the front line, thunderers can shoot over it. Only when the lines clashed will it become problematic.

But if the enemy stacks or you staggered your line a bit it's still possible to keep shooting.
