Can't recruit unlocked RoR
So I'm playing VC and I've recently unlocked a few of the regiments by killing their respective pirate factions. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me understand why these are still appearing locked. Anyone have any explanation? I have room in my army, enough gold to hire and like I said, I've killed the necessary pirates.

So after further trial, it looks like RoR's for Vampire Coast are kinda wonky, I think because the RoR system wasn't initially designed for use with horde mechanics. Essentially, you can't recruit them unless you're encamped, which isn't necessary for recruiting any other units. I didn't think of trying it because it's a bit unintuitive. So if anyone else comes across this, just encamp first, then recruit.

1) Regiments of Renown came out over three months after the first playable horde faction in Warhammer 1, the Warriors of Chaos, and over a month after the first DLC playable horde faction in Warhammer 1, the Beastmen. So no, the whole RoR system was designed with horde factions in mind.

2) The Vampire Coast, unlike any actual horde faction, can take and control land. You have to be encamped in order to recruit RoR for the Warriors of Chaos and the Beastmen because they cannot otherwise recruit anything. As the half-horde mechanics of the Vampire Coast seem to take precedence over their ability to settle or capture places, they too must be in encamp stance before they can recruit their RoR.

3) It is still unintuitive though, I'll give you that.

I think this is extra-clunky because IIRC at sea the Vampirates are able to recruit without going into a 'sea encampment stance' (which doesn't exist).

My mistake, you're right - I totally pulled that explanation out of my ass based on an assumption.

But yes, essentially this. There are also a handful of variables I've noticed allowing you to recruit directly from your ship at different times as well, which I sometimes can't keep up with and make up for with some lazy raise dead. All in all, the Vampire Coast faction has some kinks because of its unorthodox playstyle, but I will say I am VERY MUCH enjoying them, and they're well worth the DLC at least on sale if not full price.
