Depth guard - too few unit models?
I believe 45 on the default setting.

They feel on par with greatsword which has 90 (i think)

As a result depth guard doesnt feel worth the resources because when their low leadership drops when facing any kind of numbers their disintegrate very quickly.

This is partly because when Vampirates came out Depth Guard were just brokenly good.

Screenshots on the Store page showed them having 12 unit models or something small like that :P

Depth Guard are very good at dealing with chaff or in prolonged melee fights thanks to their regen in combat, but perform poorly (well they perform okay) when under "burst damage" - high-power attacks like a dino stomping them.

I think you just confused the job of the Depth Guard. By design, they aren't proper line troops as they have low model count and sup par defensive traits to work with. Rather, they are "reinforcing elements", or "kill teams" which should be used in conjunction with you usual zombies. They are also relatively fast for infantry, meaning that they can manouver to critical spots in your zombie line and target high value enemies easier. So the proper use for them would be to place them behind your real line, wait for the enemy to engage your front and then dispatch them as task forces to bolster critical spots which require their damage potential and staying power, while simultanously preventing them from beeing swarmed. As damage dealers, they are far more devastating than mournghouls, rotting prometheans and other compareable "infantry" so as long as you can play to their strenghts (concentrated offense) without letting the opponent exploit their weakness (low hp, no shields, mediocre defensive stats), they'll pay great dividents.
