So are CA ever fixing this infuriating alt tab crash?

No other game that I've ever owned has regularly crashed so hard that it refuses to close and requires a force restart of your PC... Let alone done it every third time you alt tab.

The fact that this issue has been around since 2017 without being adressed is just absurd.

If you experience it crashing when alt tab, put the game in windowed mode.

for me its about 50% of the time it will crash from alt tab'ing
wont window mode hurt performance? my cpu struggles with this game as it is

I've narrowed down the time to not alt-tab to right when I end a turn, and right before the AI turns end. Either of those practically guarantees a black screen that I can't get out of (I can ctrl + alt +del and try task manager, but the black screen makes it so I can't do anything with it), and forces me to reboot.

It's not even a Warhammer issue. Other Total War titles have the same problems. The only work around is putting the game in windowed mode.

I've found that at least on Mortal Empires once the Elves are done with their turns you can usually alt tab, also like you said don't do it before the turn is almost done.

With the black screen you can actually use the arrows on your keyboard to scroll down to where you have TW:W2 highlighted in the task manager and you can click the delete key on your keyboard to end the task. If you alt tab while doing that it'll show what you're highlighted on too, so you can easily make sure you have TW:W2 selected. I do it anytime I alt tab and get a black screen, this way you don't have to restart your computer. This technique also works for most if not all games that have the black screen you get stuck on.

i got tired of it as well, put full screen windowed, never happened again.
