Gor-Rok quest is kind of stupid.
So, I knew I was going to lose already from the start, I tried to send three units of Kroxigors, 2 Ancient Salamanders, 2 Saurus Spears and 2 heroes, the Salamanders got there first but Nakai died as soon as my troops got there. T

I sent 4 regular beefed up Saurus to the other part and they were doing their job keeping that lord safe.

It was obvious from the beginning what I should have brought but my armies that beat everything can´t beat a freaking quest because I don´t have "faster" units, I hate cavalry as I suck with both micromanagement and multitasking.

I had 5 units beating up the rats with Kroak of course killing tons of rats but little good did it do. Could perhaps have recruited some healing but given how fast Nakai died and he was surrounded I doubt healing would have done much good, what I needed was cavalry.

Maybe it´s a bit random how fast Nakai dies but he was fully surrounded and his units were taking a dump everywhere on the map and definitely not supporting him. Now I need to build a stables somewhere, recruit cavalry which I will disband as soon as the quest is done.

The general consensus is the quest is pretty bad, due to the escort missions, but also as it turns out you're better off skipping his Shield of Aeons entirely when a good piece of blue level equipment can serve the better function passive wise. Personally, I'd skip it and avoid it entirely.

I spent 10 turns building for the cavalry and getting Gor-Rok back from Norsca where he was killing stuff, got 4 units of Horned Ones and did the quest, total waste of time but I completed it nevertheless. Had to send a different Lord to meet Gor Rok halfway with the cavalry.

After that I of course dismissed the cavalry and got back to my game, 10 turns wasted as the item granted is okayish but I always have my Lord fighting a bit far from the army for it to be any good. There are far better blue items which serve any purpose.

I actually like the quest battle. But, I can easily see, that without a super beefed up army or fast units, the quest battle is tough to crack.

My problem with this one is that it's just not worth it. I can't see any point in taking that item over a normal blue that give passive tanking bonuses to Gor'rok at least in campaign.
Take a look at the numerous dwarf quest items and see how absolutely all of them look like stuff that you want asap, and the contrast feels just awful.

Exactly, far better blue items. Really is skippable.

Exactly, on legendary you build up grudges non stop which in turn gives plenty of currency to buy stuff for your lords. Each Lord/Hero can get +18 melee defence with very little effort early on letting you concentrate on the blue tree for a while while your Lord becomes a monster tank.

This quest is SO bad!
Mission: defend irrationally suicidal ally-lords
Most annoying thing so far in the game.
Annoying AND a bad reward for all your trouble.
