bone giants
I play a lot of tomb kings... but I recently felt like the bone giants are underpeforming.
While every other unite in one of my 1000 vs 4000 battles got around 100-200 kills even the front lane tanks. The bone giant got around 30-60 which I think is not enough. I use him as artilerie standing very far back with my other long range units.... anyone with diffrent experience here?

I never used them. But then again, I play with a mod that adds more and unique units to TK so they outperform them anyways...
he's not supposed to be an super-infantry killer like the plageclawcatapult or something. He shines at shooting single, big entities.

it has been a long time since i last played TK, but the bonegiants are something like the canons (antilarge arty) and he has magic dmg (yay countering the phys-res of some cav) and when he is out of ammo he can go and stomp things (if its trashy frontline stuff).

but as i said, my info might be outdated.

They are great? Oo
In that battle, they easily should have scored 300-400 kills, probably more. Depends on the terrain, though. They are a bit picky about their firing arcs.

The Bone Giants have 2 damage sources. They have a very high AP damage for their projectile that also pierces. And they have a decent explosion damage. That makes them great at killing high armor/health cavalry like units/monstrous infantry. But they also can kill 1/4 - 1/2 of the HP of a normal infantry stack.

I guess the issue for you was that because he stand back so far and because your lines were thin, the enemy didn't blob up that much and were thin lines, too.
I also assume you did not observe him or gave him good targets but just let him on auto. Which pretty much means he chose to attack the closest target which was blocked and he didn't shoot much. How much ammunition did he have left (and what was the starting amount/upgrades?)

If they have clear line of fire and hit, they do massive damage in my experience.

I have watched him in all my sieges a little but maybe, based on what you say sieges might not be his turf...but as I remember from my last kampagne he didnt peform all that great in normal fights either so I threw him out for mages or constructs.

Oh it was a siege? Yeah, they are pretty useless there when it comes to shoot things on wall.

He is decent enough shooting the wall itself, though

They're very much anti-large and single target specialists. Think of them like cannons. Their arrow gets a large anti-large bonus (+150 damage). The arrow does have an decent explosion (around 66 IIRC), but that explosion is quite small radius (4) and so putting them on anti-infantry duties is a bit wasteful of their ammo, though clearly it'll rack up a few kills.

Use them on the enemy Lord when they're mounted on a horse etc. and you'll see some big numbers knocked off their healthbar. Killing other large monsters etc.

It's not a unit you'll ever see large "kill count" numbers for really, as it's more aimed at single target sniping. A Screaming Skull Catapult will rack up far more kill count numbers than it if you're looking for simply anti-infantry,

Bone Giants are more of a smash wall and kill puny monsters instead of an anti-infantry unit.

2 bone giants with 4 Ushabti bow can knock out enemy monsters quite quickly

as many ppl have said bone giants should be used against large units. its also the reason why they wont be getting a lot of kills due to lower unit entity count for large units. bone giants are also pretty good in melee for a ranged unit.
Bonus: using it on smaller unit scales (especially Normal) scales down HP but does not scale down missile damage, so five Bone Giant shots can kill Tyrion :D

ALARM!

Comment on the topic:

They're pretty good. You're pretty good.

Bone Giant?!
Infantry-killer?!
Stone Weaponry?!

Who could they ever surpass? Or what?

They're definitely best against large models, but small models, especially if it's a blob, can actually gain you quite some kills on your Bone Giants. Just don't expect them to perform like dedicated Anti-Infantry.
