No.... not yet!
Not until the SOMEBODY ONCE TOLD ME THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME glorious faction comes out!!
Medieval 2 was the last Total War before Warhammer that I liked. I put thousands of hours in. I loved it, but it's kind of hard to go back to after Warhammer. What baffles me is that the broken mess Rome 2 is on anyone's favourite game list. I bought it as soon as it was released and after a few months it was still broken on the most fundemental level. I've heard some say that after all these years they've actually fixed it, but I just don't care to even install it to find out anymore. It's certainly hard for me to believe, because everything about that game on a design and technical level was just wrong.
Because of that it took a lot for me to return to the series. A friend that I used to play the Warhammer tabletop game with gifted me both Warhammer games on Steam earlier this year, and since it was a gift, I thought I might as well at least give it a try. Thankfully I found that they were awesome and the best Total War has been since Medieval 2 (I'm not into the setting of Shogun 2 sadly).
But as for my favourite games of all time, that would have to be Monolith's classic FPS, Blood or perhaps Age of Wonders III. Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is a recent strong contender. Warhammer 2 is awesome, but I don't know if I'd rate it as an all time classic. I can't think of any reason why not, I just don't feel that strongly about it somehow. Maybe that will change if they add Nagash who's been my hero since 4th edition in the early nineties. I still have the Undead "army book" from that period.
Yeah, siege battles became more active compared to previous titles where you had to spend few turns on campaign map to build siege equipment and then some time on battle map while you bombard enemy fortifications without them being able to retaliate. Now you can attack on turn 1 and immediately advance instead of waiting. I don't see how this is a bad thing. Siege battles in warhammer are much better than in previous titles in my opinion.
The main thing that makes historical titles worse for me is the lifespan of leaders. I don't want my leader dying in the middle of the campaign.
Huge diversity of units and very different mechanics for each faction make TW:WH/TW:WH2 the best game out of TW series for me.
For me the most economical were mud Materia Magica and Marvel Puzzle Quest. Zero cost and 4400 hours for MM (on one character) and 2800 hours for MPQ before I reached usable final tier of characters and game became boring.
Rome 2 has been improved a lot later though. I think it's easily the best historical total war at the moment.
It will be remembered as the best strategy game of its time and if TWWH3 does it properly, as the best strategy game ever made. Once all the DLCs and bugfixies are completed, it will most likely be the best game of all time.
1)Sieges are meh
2)Politics and diplomacy are non existent or meh
3)Tonns of small dlc instead of major expansions
4)0 improvements on 10 years old AI
5)Norska,WE,beastmen,chaos still underdeveloped
6)No servers for multiplayer games and decent amount of dsyncs and other issues
7)Same old campaign mechanics like public order and only 1 currency for all the factions(gold)
8)Agent spam for ages
9)Minor city battles
10)Gate Bug is still here
I am not even talking about Sega cash grap politics and u can make alot of other points on game flaws.
I was under the impression that we are talking about the best game... not the most perfectly designed game. Some people claim that Master of Magic is the best, but I guess I don't need to mention how buggy and extremely imbalanced it is. Or watch some speed runs in Half Life and how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful lot of glitches and other annoying stuff it has.
cuz it runs like ♥♥♥♥ and the turns take ages. WH1 and 3k runs much better.
And also both those have a fraction of the content of wh2+mortal empires, and it only runs like ♥♥♥♥ if your computer isnt mid-high end
